Regular Alclad finishes will reproduce a wide range of realistic and durable metal finishes on aircraft, car and truck models, armor and figures. For use on injection plastic kits, a primer is necessary. ALC302, ALC306, ALC309, or Tamiya plastic primer can be used. Plastic primers should be lightly polished with 1000/1200 wet-or-dry sandpaper ot give a less absorbent smooth surface.

## Features

To obtain a great finish: The surfaces to be painted must be thoroughly clean and free from dust and fingerprints, Airbrush at 12-15 psi, Airbrush 2-3 inches away from the model, and Buffing is not necessary but tonal variation can be made by polishing selected panels with Micromesh.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Should you prime plastic first with say tamiya fine surface primer?**
A: I haven't tried Alclad II right on Tamiya primer but it should work OK if you sand the primer with a fine grit first, as this can produce a very smooth, almost semi-gloss finish. Putting a coat of gloss paint over the primer is recommended because the metallic has almost zero thickness so it reveals every irregularity of what's underneath. Alclad directly onto plastic will attack the plastic.

**Q: Can Testors primers be used with Alclad primer?**
A: I believe the Testors Enamel primers are fine. I’m not sure if there are Latex or Acrylic primers - they would most likely not be good.

**Q: Does this have to be thinned or is it airbrush ready, straight out the bottle?**
A: No thinning needed.

**Q: Can this be uses to paint glass?**
A: Hello, if the glass is frosted I imagine it could, but this in an extremely thin paint, used for airbrushing models. It first needs an undercoat of some type. I used it on a Titan 2 Gemini rocket, and with the Alclad black primer, it was much darker than I figured it would be. Your best bet would be to use a different type of aluminum paint such as Testors, or even maybe a more durable type like Rustoleum or Krylon. This stuff is so thin, it takes many coats just to get an opaque finish. I honestly was kind of disappointed as to its shade, and had expected it to be more bright and shiny. It was more like the color of darkened stainless steel, rather than the aluminum its supposed to portray. Also, on glass, I wouldn't think it would be very durable, beings glass is such a hard, less poreous surface, it would probibly chip off. You would have to use a sealer of some kind to prevent this... Hope that helps... :)
