Q: Is this for two shell pieces so one can be used as a pool and the other as a sandbox or just one shell?

This comes with two shell pieces, just as shown in the picture. You could use one for a sandbox/pool and the other shell on top for a cover, or keep it open & use one for a sandbox and one for a pool. It comes with a little piece of rope to keep the two pieces together. Hope that helps!
