An uncompromising intellectual assault that speaks truth to power
Exploding onto the literary scene in 1980, "Truck" ranks among the best works of such luminaries as Twain, Voltaire, and Solzhenitsyn. Crews' seminal text will subvert the reader's preconceived notions regarding race, class, gender, power, and morality, while cleverly examining the interplay between these concepts in the framework of both physical space and philosophical dimensions. The result is a semantic tableau that is both so complex as to be opaque, and thus unknowable, while being so clear as to be reflective, and thus acting as a mirror that uncompromisingly reflects both the reader and society at large.Few works challenge the dominant paradigms of prevailing superstructures as thoroughly as this book. But "Truck" is far more than a mere tract or simple call to action; it is also an intensely personal work that will leave the reader forever changed. Whether a scathing attack on all a complacent and decaying society takes for granted, or a piercing incision into the darkest depths of individual's soul, "Truck" is a work of such power that one needs not question whether or not they should read it, as chances are, it has influenced the world in such a way that one cannot have remained untouched by its legacy.Be sure to also check out "School Bus," "Freight Train," and "Inside Freight Train" from the same author.

A favorite with my child
Although this wordless book appears simplistic, toddlers will find lots to look at and discuss. The storyline depicts the transportation of cargo (tricycles) across the country. Scenes include the city, the highway, tunnels, rain, the countryside, a bridge, a gas station, and more. Personally, I always wince a bit when my child chooses this book off the shelf, because I do find it quite dull to read compared to some others. But he loves it, which is what's important.I took off one star because our copy has a duplicate page. There is one part of the book where you turn the page and the next spread is IDENTICAL to the one before. I can only assume that this is a manufacturing error. I'm not sure if we just got an extra copy of that spread, or if there was something different that was supposed to be there instead.

First book my 18-month-old loves!
It's a miracle! My 18-month-old would not, could not sit through an entire book. As a mom who wanted him to learn to appreciate reading good and early, I struggled to get him to do so. We had every good kids book including brown bear, goodnight moon, thomas the tank series etc and borrowed everything under the sun from the library. I read one review here saying that one parent had a similar issue and that his/her 18-month-old appreciated this book. I'm so glad I read that review! I got this book and my son loves it. He sits next to me and goes through the pages together. He'll even turn back to previous pages when he gets to the end and goes back through the book. I can't wait to try other books by this author!

No story here just a bold picture book
We have another book by Donald Crews that my 9 month old son loves Freight Train Big Book (Mulberry Big Book) so I thought I'd try this one to add a little variety to our story time. I was disappointed when it arrived as it doesn't actually contain a story. There are bright pictures of trucks, truck stations, and streets. Some of the pages do have words like "Trucking"or street signs but there really isn't a story here, it's all pictures. The pictures are bold and bright but somewhat abstract. However my son seems to love flipping the pages and seeing all the colors. If you're looking for a story to read to your little one this book is not for you. But if he/she likes picture books this is great.

Best Book for a Pre-Reader Who Loves TRUCKS
Love all books by Crew, he's amazing. We've checked this out of the public library so many times, it was worth buying. The only disappointment is the board book is so small, I should have known better and bought the hardbound book. But it is perfectly fine for a 2 year-old.

Didn't "get it" at first
I didn't get it at first. A bunch of shots of a truck at super weird angles, and that's it. However, my toddler loves it. It must be the same concept as Goodnight Gorilla where you just make up a story and that's what they love about it. He loves the colors, pictures, and pointing out the signs. Since I told him what the signs mean, now he points them out and tells ME what they mean, so he feels all smart and stuff :) He's 22 months old.

Good truck book!
Good book for less than two years old so the child can make up their own story.

imaginative storytelling book
I bought this book several years ago for my little boy who loves trucks. It has been a favorite because it becomes a different story everytime you read it.This book has no words but great illustrations. I got to use my imagination to create new stories. The story starts by loading the truck to driving on the roads and ending with unloading the truck. It was always a bedtime favorite. It is also really good for teaching the signs we encounter while driving.
