DYLAN THOMAS OMNIBUS: Under Milk Wood, Poems, Stories and Broadcasts
M**.
Omnibus - The written works of Dylan Thomas.
This book is a collection of Dylan's best known poems, short stories, radio broadcasts and magazine articles. It contains PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG DOG, UNDER MILKWOOD, 18 POEMS, 25 POEMS, DEATHS AND ENTRANCES, STORIES and BROADCASTS and much more.My favourites in the book are PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG DOG and the short stories which are very descriptive and take you back to his early life in Swansea, it really got my imagination going. Why? did it take me so long to get around to reading a book of his work, now I know why he is regarded as a great literary writer of the 20th century, it was a shame he died so young. It spans his writing career, so is ideal if you only want to own one book of his best written work.

A collection of classic stories and poems, but without any introduction or analysis
My first time returning to Dylan Thomas since I was a student in Swansea nearly 40 years ago. The musical quality of his writing, his wordplay and his exuberance are just as exhilarating to read now as they were then. But reading these poems and stories again, I can appreciate the darker elements more - the sense of mortality - as well as the sexual undertone of much of his work. I can also appreciate the humour more, particularly in his classic, "Under Milk Wood". Not quite the Complete Works, but almost. Unfortunately, apart from a brief chronology, there is no introduction or analysis for the first-time reader - so, a reader unfamiliar with Swansea or many of the references and symbolism of his works will not find this volume as enriching as it otherwise could have been if it had been contextualised with a thoughtful essay.

Lovely book for Dylan Thomas fans.
A birthday gift for someone too young to have read Dylan Thomas but old enough to appreciate him!

Is it me ?
Little to say; typical DT. Had difficulty coming to terms with him in Eng.Lit. at school, but tried again to see if my brain had improved with age ! - but found just marginal pleasure in re-treading old ground. One for my bookshelf and an occasional look through now and again. However, who am I to presume offering an opinion on this literary giant's work who, to many far more qualified than I, consider him a genius in his field.
