Will this fit in an rv toilet?

It is more comfortable with a container.....but you can squat and use it. We used it on a camping trip when it was needed during the night and it worked fine.

In what kind of specific situations would these bags be handy?

These are for situations where you have no access to a toilet for "poop" and you aren't allowed to leave it in the wild. In Canyonlands National Park, there are areas you can backpack and camp, but they require you to use these bags to pack out solid human waste because of over-use problems.
