These are unique ice packs. They arrived in a dry state, the packs need to be submerged in water first to expand the material in the blue packs. Once they had expanded, i put them in the freezer. The material did not leak and maintained the puffy shape. The packs fit well and easily into the soft black holder and the straps are elastic with velcro on the end to secure. I actually cut one pack in half to use on a child and it did not leak. It maintains a cold temperature for more than 15 min. I just threw it back into the freezer after use, no need to put more water on it. It has been used on multiple injuries, insect bites, migraine pain relief and to chill breast milk when we were in a pinch. I would buy again as it has been very versatile, not messy and great value.

This arrives in freeze-dried packaging, light as a feather. Other reviewers said there was nothing to freeze in the ice packs - they must be submerged in water for 5 minutes to hydrate, then freeze or microwave. This is super simply made, like I could have made it with my basic sewing skills. Basically, there is a rectangular pocket to hold the ice/heat pack with a velcro closure at the end. An elastic strap is attached with velcro at the end of the strap to secure ice pack in place. It comes with a plastic bag cover to put the ice pack in before inserting into the cloth pocket. My guess is the bag keeps the ice pack from dehydrating so you don't have to soak it again. I wish it had come with a bag for each ice pack, but I just put the second one in a half gallon Ziplock. I also noted when I tried the pack in the microwave, I didn't put it in the plastic bag and after it cooled, it had diminished and I had to rehydrate it in water. I gave this 5 stars simply for the cost vs effectiveness and this is a great product. (I used it for my knee. I suspect the elastic wouldn't fit around a waist bigger than 34-36")

I bought this to use for an avulsion fracture of my lateral malleolus that had me in an air cast for 2 months. This ice pack was my saving grace! They freeze quickly, the little pouch with the strap keep the ice in place and it stays cold for a long time. The pouch is also the perfect thickness to allow enough cold to penetrate but keep your skin safe. I’ve also used the ice packs for headache relief and it’s so helpful to have the strap to hold it in place. I can’t recommend this ice pack enough, highly worth it considering its cost is low and quality is high. Great purchase!
