Best in-ears for the price, hands down.
These have a really fantastic and full, yet balanced sound that lets music sound the way it was intended. It doesn't pump out artificially enhanced bass, but for tracks that include a lot of bass, such as the dance music I usually run through them, it's very present. The fit is AMAZING. I haven't had a more comfortable or secure feeling pair of in-ear headphones in my life. The construction is also really solid, with a web-wrapped cable, and an anti-tangle slider on the split portion of the cable that makes them easy to store in your pocket. I'm also glad they have an angled connector, so it puts less strain on the jack, which is where most headphone damage comes from. The only sacrifice is there is no device control, so you must use your device to control volume and you have to hold the phone up to speak into the microphone, but those are really minor shortcomings in a product that is otherwise flawless. They're really just focused on music.Really glad I bought these.

Great build quality, loud response, but could use some equalization
Based on previous reviews and the current price, I expected a "higher than normal" quality earbud from Sony. For the most part, these earbuds are much higher quality than the cheaper Samsung defaults. The build quality isn't something I've ever seen in a earbud (not that I have bought many high quality earbuds), which according to popular believe are usually designed to failed or at least designed to not. These buds are well constructed with a wrapped cord with a nice texture. The plug itself is gold plated on the jack and on the back in a flat circular fashion. The cable going to the jack is reinforced from the jack housing by a tapered, rubber sleeve. This should help slow down plug wear. The cable has no sound or voice controls, which doesn't bother me as I'm capable of changing the volume of my phone from inside my pocket. The actual buds themselves are really well constructed with a solid brass finish and inset Sony logo. It's easy to identify the left and right buds due to the different colored "L" and "R" letters and because of a bump on the left side.In terms of extras, the phones come with a Japanese user manual and 3 extra pairs of ear cups. Also there appears to be a plastic tool that can be used as a base to wrap the headphone cord.*** EDIT ***: after about a day or two of usage, the headphones burned in and the sharp treble went away. Definitely burn these in before usage. Now for the most important part - the sound quality. I was expecting higher definition sound with a moderately strong bass response.I got that in part, but there is one issue I wasn't expecting. These headphones are too bright! Songs with an "S" (hisses, cymbals, and claps) sounds, such as in lyrics or just certain EDM tracks, are shrill sounding and hurt my ears. As you turn the volume up, the songs don't get better - they hurt more. The sharpness increases linearly with volume and does not sound or feel good. Not sure if this is related to breaking in the headphones, but I will see how I feel in the coming weeks. Besides that treble imbalance, the bass is strong, deep, and punchy when it needs to be. Based on some of the previous reviews you may expect a headphone with a normal bass response - these are WRONG. These headphones DO have a healthy bass response and you will hear it over your other sounds. If this is a problem for you and the music you listen to, then consider purchasing another pair of earbuds. I personally enjoy a high bass response that isn't overwhelming like Beats or Skullcandy's.Honestly, the only thing wrong with this pair is the bad equalization, which for some people is a deal breaker. The highs are just too dang high. This is why these buds only got 3 stars. No production quality buds at this price point should have a flaw that serious. If this shrillness goes away (or I lose my hearing, which ever comes first) then I will consider raising the review to a higher star rating.*** EDIT (2 year update) ***: Two years later and with light use these have held up quite well. I mostly use these at my desk, but lately I've started taking them to the gym. I'm still happy with my purchase, although I'm just as happy with my $10 Amazon headphones. I honestly can't hear any difference, but all this says is that I'm not an audiophile. The only wear and tear I've experienced is with the brass on the back of the headphone driver. It seems to have tarnished with what looks like "rivers" flowing across the surface. I haven't polished it or treated it with anything, but I'll suspect it will clean up nicely. Also, I've come to the conclusion that these headphones are just LOUD! I have to keep my computer's volume around 15% otherwise my ears hurt. With somewhat reduced volume, the brightness of these headphones doesn't cause me ear pain.

This set of earphones have been excellent so far
This set of earphones have been excellent so far. They appear to be very well made with excellent springy strain reliefs on the earpieces and the plugin jack. I have listened to them for hours and they were still comfortable and stayed in my ears. I am not one to burn in audio equipment before listening to them and these sounded great from the start. The only time that I pay serious attention to the sound qualities of earphones or headphones is when I first purchase them and these are very clear throughout the entire frequency range but not at all screechy on the top end, a blessing when listening to compressed music. Bluegrass to symphonies, Adele to Kiri Te Kanawa, New Age to the Three Irish Tenors, these phones really love acoustic instruments and the human voice. For my kind of music enjoyment these Inear phones at least equal my Sennheiser 558 headphones which cost a lot more. If you like Brainwavz M2 for the sound, you will love these Sonys even more for the sound and the construction.

The Headphones sound Ok. A little muddy sound with weak base. Does not worth the price.

Excellent sound and very comfortable to wear
Excellent sound and very comfortable to wear. Stay in nicely as well, despite their good weighty feel. My only gripe is when I cycle with them on there is a considerable amount of wind buffet with them. Otherwise they are excellent. Would be 5 stars otherwise!

Beautiful sound in a package to match.
Because I’ve owned many Sony headphones and because they change their lineup every week or two, I’ll spare the details since these will be unavailable and replaced soon. And that’s a shame, because they sound just lovely. All around excellent, very true to recording, detailed, and something more: vibrant, vivid, rich. They’re a wee bit colored, not monitors, but blissfully enjoyable. They look fantastic, too, and that kind of matters. Comfort: as some have noted, the large diameter body can press against the ear and over longer periods, this isn’t comfortable. It’s easy enough to adjust so that this doesn’t happen, though.

The best replacement ear buds under $100
In a world of bass-heavy production and over-emphasized reproduction in headphones, it's an absolute pleasure to find a product where that doesn't happen. This is the nicest set of ear buds I've owned for under $100. Fantastic sound stage, good separation of the instruments with a slight V sound shape. The mids are not up front in rock styles but sound very strong with Amy Winehouse or Fiona Apple type vocals. The sensitivity is very good and I've encountered zero distortion though, to be honest, I haven't pegged them as I prefer to keep my hearing. DO yourself a favor and spend the $60 and get a fantastic pair of headphones
