The read of my lifetime
I've read embarrassingly few books in my life so far and I don't know how much more I'll go on to finish in the time I have left. But I suspect this one may end up being the 'read of my lifetime'. I can't think of any other book I've read as fast as vigorous. And to think that the only reason I ever picked it up was that both Pa. Ranjith and Vetrimaaran mentioned itNothing better sums up what this book did for me than the below quote from the book itself"There is an expression called “the peak experience”—that which emotionally, nothing in your life ever transcends."

Too tiny sized print
Print way too small for comfortable reading.....too much of a strain on the eyes....a larger print would be so welcome...

It is a book by Alex Haley.
The author, an African American, traces his family's roots deep into Africa from where his forefather, Kunta Kinte, was brought to the U.S. as a slave in the 18th century. It is a seminal work of autobiographical fiction.

Amazing research
The first half is gripping, and the second half is informative but less gripping. However, as you finish the book and read the final chapters, it is really mind blowing to understand the amount of hard work and research that has gone into tracing the roots of the black population in the US. The author has done a commendable job in describing the quiet life of the natives, disrupted by the greed and selfish insensitivity of the white people with a few exceptions here and there. Reuires patient reading, but worth the time spent to understand how the crudely civilisation has evolved.

Historical
This book is monumental in time scale, rich in culture, and tells you the truth. But the question is do you have in it you to face the truth?

The very best
No words to describe the book. Only berate myself, such a voracious reader, why had I waited so long to read this classic? Did the short abridged version that appeared in the Reader’s Digest decades ago, suffice, to my young, immature mind? Perhaps it’s just as well. In my autumn years perhaps the book resonates better than it would have in my earlier years. To understand the depths of human atrocity, the indefatigable human spirit...One has to read ROOTS.

Roots
Each and every plantation and tree has its own roots. It derives its wealth from there. But no tree wishes to see its own root. If it is it has to be entirely uprooted. But this root is something special with its beautiful tale. Wonderful piece of writing.

Best written book of our times
This is probably the fifth copy of this book that I’ve owned. Read previous copies until they were tattered and dogeared. A profoundly moving account of American history.

Fast delivery and still a powerful book.
I found a copy of this in a book sale but the old version I bought was too disappointed to read. This is not an original edition but it's a lovely quality book. The story is still gripping and powerful. No matter some of the research might have been discredited , it doesn't effect the story or the importance that this history be acknowledged and addressed. Very powerful. I would highly recommend the book and the TV series.. The original and 2016 remake are available in Amazon. For a small charge.

appassionante
