Informative....
As a Greek Orthodox follower who grew up within the church, I found this book to be very informative, easy to read and understand. Whilst I knew most of what the book was describing, there were some minor items that I wasn't quite familiar with and therefore, this book filled in those gaps for me. I have also given this book to my 2 teenage children to read as they have often questioned the various aspects of the Orthodox faith and I feel this book is ideal not only for my children but for newcomers to the faith to use as a guideline. I found the chapters relating to the history of the church and Constantine the Great were very interesting as I was not clearly familiar with its' original origins and the true significance of this man. The remainder of the chapters were concise in it's description of the various aspects of the faith. A wonderful dictionary for all interested in the Orthodox Religion.

Still learning
This is a good book to help New Orthodox become more comfortable. Coming into the Church from outside. It is a good primer for a non "Cradle" Orthodox. So much information, sights, sounds, smells, forms, and ceremonies that are not familiar to an outsider can be overwhelming. I think it is good to help understand how you can and should participate in the services of the church. In the Orthodox church there is a formality, yet an invitation is felt and heard to particpate. The faith is not just talked about, but there is always the encouragement to live the faith in a practical way. The seeker, and the child of God meet on level ground in faith.

Informative extensively!
This is a very good book explaining Church history from the beginning.Lots of explanation even for a new Christian this book helps a lot. Many way due to the Modern Mission world and new thoughts and Theology emerging in the Church of Christ, thehistory, legacy and traditions of the early Church is ignored. This book helps to understand lots of reality.Orthodox Church is to be understood if we want to understand Church.i come from a very different Church background but i have a great respect and reverence to the Orthodox Churchwhom God choose to carry His mission. please understand this is a basic book on Orthodox Church and all about it.

For the educated traveller to Greece and Eastern Europe
As an introduction to Eastern Orthodoxy, which is all the book purports to be, the book is ideal: well-written, concise, useful in Terms of pertinent Information such as Major Holidays, with more depth than one would expect in a simple introduction. I would recommend the book to persons travelling in Greece, the Balkans or eastern European countries as well as to those unfamiliar with Eastern Orthodoxy, which, though one of the three Major branches of Christianity, is Little known or understood in the USA and Western Europe.

Fantastic book and intro to Orthodox Christianity
This book is a great introduction into the Orthodox Christian Church. It is both great from a historical and ritual/traditional point of view. After reading this you will better understand the Orthodox Church and you will enjoy even more being a member of this great community. The book is well written and relatively easy to read. Excellent Book!
This book was so thorough in describing Christianity and its beginnings, and also the Orthodox religion, church and liturgy. It was a great read, not boring at all, and I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this little book and wish I had it years ago. Now, I can go into a Greek church and know what it's all about.

Simple, Clear, Concise
I would describe this little gem as an excellent pocket guide to the Orthodox church and the faith of Orthodox Christian believers. It covers the history, structure, beliefs and ritual of Orthodoxy in a clear and simple way. It also gives very helpful advice on what to do when visiting an Orthodox church. I would recommend this lovely little book as an introduction to anyone drawn to Orthodoxy, or indeed to any non-Orthodox person who has a desire to understand this most ancient of Christian traditions.
