Helped me save my phone's pictures from certain loss, and it does other things too.
I was traveling internationally earlier this year and dropped my phone onto a cement floor, permanently damaging the screen. I couldn't navigate, I couldn't change settings, I couldn't join a wifi network or even turn the cellular data back on to back things up. I was in trouble since I'd taken hundreds of pictures in recent days while traveling through Latin America and the Caribbean. Unfortunately, since I was roaming, my phone wasn't backing up to the cloud automatically, which left me reliant on wifi -- also very limited in my destinations -- but only usable with a wifi card where I had to enter a code. I packed it away, hoping I could find a solution once I returned home. I read that my Huawei phone had a 'desktop' mode, where I could connect it to a monitor and use it like a computer but had never tried it. I was desperate so looked for a device like this, hoping it would at least give me the equivalent of an external monitor and allow me to back up my phone before sending it for repair, where a full phone reset/erase is part of their process. This arrived quickly so I plugged it into my phone's charge port (USB-C) and into an hdmi port on my television. Since the touch screen wasn't working, I also plugged in a USB mouse. Voila! The desktop came up and the mouse was moving around the screen so I turned the wifi and cellular data back on, allowing all my irreplaceable pictures to get backed up. Whew! After this ordeal, I found that this is a great product in many other ways, especially for a newer laptop that is short on USB ports. It's well-built and high performance. Great product!

Pretty good
I can always trust Anker to deliver great products--but I was pleasantly surprised that this one doesn't seem to be built with the same glossy plastic the other Anker products I have tend to use. This one seems like it's built with a matte plastic (that honestly felt like metal) and an improved pouch that can also house the cable that's attached to it. It works well connected to my Pixelbook and outputs to a screen as needed. When connected to my phone--the screen output doesn't work--but I didn't expect it to, as it's not supported by the phone. But the card readers work, so I can use this accessory across all my other USB-C devices.

best hub adapter I've used
I'm surprised at some of these negative reviews. I've used hub adapters for years with my Mac and this one literally is the best. I like the short cord; longer ones tend to pull the adapter down more forcefully, which loosens the connection and over time decreases the adapter's ability to work properly. So this shorter cord is better to have. Some people mentioned a snug fit with their USBs - that is what you want-You don't want them to have a loose fit. This adapter is no frills and just what I need. It is much higher quality than the cheaper adapters I'd been buying. You get what you pay for with this adapter and it's worth the higher cost.

it functions, but has a small light that stays lit.
After returning a similar unit, I like this one because it functions as intended. However, I left the ethernet plugged in overnight and the computer had used up 30% of the battery and this is a Mac book M1, which is very efficient. A tiny light stays on and might cause drain, or maybe just the ethernet signal drained power. I'll just plug it in when I desire a wired connection.

Great while it lasted
This device worked great for 6 months but now the HDMI port no longer is working. I left the HDMI plugged in 24/7 since the day it arrived, so very little movement during that time. I would assume a poorly soldered connection came loose, but the USB ports are all still functioning as expected. I have tried several brands and this was the first that worked out of the box and didn't feel like utter garbage. I am continuing the search for something more reliable though.

Great Simple USB Hub
This hub does everything it's supposed to, while also offering exceptional build quality and a nice design as well. The cable and all the connectors are very solid, it definitely feels like it's built to last. If you do not need the HDMI function there are definitely cheaper options, but this one is nice because it allows you to both connect to and HDMI display and use up to 4 USB 3.0 devices simultaneously. My only complaint is that there is no USB C port, for charging passthrough. If you have a computer that only has one USB C port (such as the 12" MacBook) you will not be able to use this hub and charge your device at the same time. This can be pretty annoying, say you are connected to a display with all of your peripherals set up and you get a low-battery warning. You will have to disconnect from all of those devices just to charge your laptop, which seems pretty silly. Therefore I would recommend getting a different hub if your laptop only has one USB C port, but if it has multiple this is a good option.

M1 Mac Mini - not completely functional?
Trying to use with new M1 Mac Mini - seems to not be happy with mass storage devices. External (powered, brand new) Seagate USB HDD shows up when I plug in the drive to the hub 'live", but isn't there after I reboot, and neither is the HDMI output. Unplugging HDD brings back USB, and HDD re-appears when I plug it back into the hub. Drive works fine on other USB hubs and direct. Hub seems OK feeding other devices (scanner, card reader). Also didn't like an external DVD burner (didn't show up at all via this hub) but that may be that the DVD drive is pretty old so I'm willing to overlook that one. You get what you pay for...

I’ve had this connected to my MacBook 24/7 and I’ve had zero issues/disconnections. Looks great too and matches the colour of the darker MacBook Pro.

Nothing fancy here, no card reader slots, no HDMI or VGA outputs, just 4 USB 3.0 outlets to expand the functionality of you computer. And since it comes with a (semi) built-in C to A adapter, you can use the same hub for tablets and phones, too. The construction seems to be nice and solid, so this should last for years with no trouble.
