Review: Made cat fountain water filters - I got tired of paying $20 for 10 subpar water filters for my catsโ fountain so I decided to make my own. I filled an organza bag with this stuff and put it in the filter housing and I can already tell it is way better than the overpriced filters. The granular charcoal works perfectly and rinses clear after about 15-20 seconds under the faucet. This bag will last me a long time and save money. My cats seem happy already with the taste of the water, and now I can afford to change the charcoal filters way more often. Review: Great quality. Reasonable cost. - I like that it's granular and not powder. I use it in my litter boxes to keep odor away and help purified any bacteria. I've used it before and I'm very happy with it. I will buy it again. I do have hairless cats and always concerned about their health. *Arrived much faster than expected

Not 5 LBS
The product itself is just fine. A bit dusty but it does what it needs to. However I needed 5 lbs to replace the carbon in a filter and I was only sent 4.1 LBS so I was not able to completely fill my filter as needed. Messaged seller so if they correct this I will update my rating. **revised, seller was fast to replace order that was short on the weight.

Nothing fancy, but does what it's meant to do extremely well
This product came in a simple tightly zip-tied 6mil polyethylene bag, which is all it needs, and who wants to pay extra for a fancy container? As a seller I know that fancy packaging and presentation just means I'm being charged more by the seller than I really need to be for the same product. I am sure all activated charcoal is about the same, but speaking from the point of view of someone who has never done carbon filtering before, this product did a far better job, faster, and with less amount, than I was expecting or even hoping for for my purposes. I definitely got my money's worth.

Used on distilled spirits
The intended purpose is for use in filtering water. Used to filter distilled spirits and it did "so-so", but not as good as normal wood charcoal. Tried to save few bucks and it showed in the final product.

Does its job
I use this in my cat's litterbox, and it does a tremendous job as an additive to help drastically reduced litterbox odor. I highly recommend it for anyone with cats as a great odor absorber for their litter, without using any cent boosting "crystals" or other chemical fragrance boosters.

Plastic bag of carbon granules
Ordered from American Water Solutions. Packing slip says it is carbon, looks like the right stuff, but it bothers me a bit that this is just double bagged with garbage bags and zip tied shut. Seems like 5 lbs, so that seems fine. Still, it seems like they could have found a zipper bag the right size and stuck a label on it without too much trouble. Product is probably fine, but the packaging definitely raises a red flag for me.

Just what I needed
I use this with reuseable cotton tea bags to make my own filters for drinking water. Much cheaper than premade filters. I just empty the cotton bags out during the filter change and hand wash them with dishsoap. Refill and use again.
