The Descent of Man, Darwin's second landmark work on evolutionary theory (following The Origin of the Species), marked a turning point in the history of science with its modern vision of human nature as the product of evolution. Darwin argued that the noblest features of humans, such as language and morality, were the result of the same natural processes that produced iris petals and scorpion tails. Review: Everyone MUST read this book - Before anyone castigateds me for the reason I think this should be read, I am only stating the words and beliefs of Darwin. Darwin was wrong about almost everything of which he wrote. Here, in The Descent of Man, Darwin's prejudices against every race, except the white race, is clearly laid out by this man. He lays out how he thought men born were intellectually superior to women (ridiculous even for his time), how various human "races" are inately superior, how men were innately superior, etc., etc. No one should hold this man on high, when he was such a vile person, stuck in his own prejudices, yet peddled these prejudices as "Scientific Facts". No one should avoid reading the real and complete Charles Darwin. These were his beliefs, through which he viewed everything in the world. It is a great book, because it exposes him to the light of day! Pick it up and READ IT, before you get mad at the messenger. Review: Greater importance than Darwin's "Origin of the Species" for those looking into evolution. - Perhaps of greater importance than Darwin's "Origin of the Species." Though since it's writing there are errors, still his analysis of anatomy of different species and the potential connection to Homo sapiens was exceptionally insightful for its time. Feel this is an important book for those interested in evolution, anthropology and paleontology. Be sure to get the complete version not the abridged edition.

Could be way shorter
If you took out all the untranslated French, Latin, and German out of this book, along with the sources noted in parenthesis, this book would be about 75 pages. I want to read strictly on mankind's biological and historical lineage; if I wanted to read his sources I would've bought the other books. It's an actual eye sore to read a paragraph and hallway through it is no info but sources from his colleagues. I don't care about those colleagues.

A slim, poor substitute of the full book written by Darwin.
This was not the actual Darwin book. It was a copy of a part of the book. There wasn't even a date of publication on it. Obviously self published from someone, maybe a real person, maybe a bot. The cover page was completely misleading. Inside you learn that it is only volume 1. I wanted to know when Darwin originally wrote the book, but there was no original copyright information. I have ordered it from the library to see whether it is actually the same words as Darwin wrote.

Gift
This was a gift for my grandpa who is always talking about Darwin. He loves this book and was excited to receive it. The book is a softback, so much cheaper to replace than a hardback since he treats his books poorly.

Encadernação horrível
Péssima encadernação. Parece a capa de uma revista. Simplesmente horrível! Não vale o preço. Texto horrivelmente formatado, justificado à esquerda.

Highly recommended
Excellent read. Glad I’ve acquired as bespoke addition to my home library

Two things to bear in mind ...
Firstly, this is NOT the complete work, but only Part One; and secondly, it has the annoying habit of referring to illustrations that have not been included. So I'm not quite sure of its purpose!

Not complete
If you are looking for the complete book don't buy this one, it includes only part one of the entire piece.

Oeuvre incomplète
Ce livre n’est que le premier tome, ce qui n’est indiqué ni dans la description, ni sur la couverture. Je l’ai acheté en croyant que c’était l’édition intégrale. Une grosse arnaque à mon avis.
