Quite Pleased
I've been using an iPod Touch for the past few years, and since it started slowing down a few months ago, I'd been looking to upgrade. Frustrated with how proprietary Apple products are, I knew I wanted to try something different. This is my first Android device. I was afraid that since I was familiar with the iPod, I'd find the Dell Venue Tablet difficult to use, but it was surprisingly easy. I was able to easily connect to my wireless server following the prompts, and then I was able to sync my Hotmail account. This was much easier on the Dell Venue than it ever was with my iPod Touch. Then, I was easily able to download all my favorite apps (Facebook, Goodreads, Pandora, Netflix, and Amazon Kindle) from the "Play Store" icon at the bottom of the screen. Next, I went into settings and was able to switch to a Live Wallpaper, which is pretty cool, and turn on and sync the Bluetooth to my wireless speaker. I was able to log into all my various accounts, download a book to the Kindle app, and listen to some music on the Pandora app. So far, I haven't experienced any glitches or had any issues getting the Dell Venue Tablet to do what I want it to do. The home screen looks very similar to that of my iPod Touch. The biggest difference I've noticed is that there are no little red notifications on the icons when I have mail or a comment on Facebook, etc. I either have to notice the top of my screen when something updates or check my accounts. The Dell Venue Tablet is a little different from what I'm used to, but I'm able to do everything on it that I did on my iPod Touch, and I love moving up to a larger screen. My primary reason for wanting a tablet was so that I could sneak away and watch my shows on Netflix whenever I have access to Wi-Fi, and it's really nice not to have my eyes going all wonky from watching on a tiny, tiny screen. Most of the devices (Kindle Fires, iPods, MP3 players) we've recently purchased didn't include the outlet plug; we had to purchase one separately, but the Dell Venue comes with not only a charger cable but also a wall outlet plug, which is nice. Overall, I am quite pleased with the Dell Venue Tablet, and my husband, who has an Android Smartphone, tells me the more I get used to an Android operating system, the more I will love it. Edited to add: I received my first Dell Venue tablet for the purposes of this review. I unwisely left it where my toddler son could reach it, and he cracked the screen. Rather than try to replace the screen, I decided to buy a new Dell Venue tablet because of how much I liked the first one. The plethora of negative reviews baffles me. I'm just as pleased with the tablet I purchased as I was with the one I received to review. Had I not gotten one to review and been able to try it out, I probably would have shied away from buying one based on the negative reviews, but to my mind, it's a good, affordable tablet and well worth the money spent.

Sadly, final review
I bought a new one, through Amazon. When I got it and tried it out, it kept freezing, pasting text when I pressed the delete key,and blacking out the background on at least one game. This is not acceptable. I am returning it for a refund. I wanted to like it and keep it, but either the Operating System (OS), or the components have problems. They do not play well together. Somehow, the tablet that I bought first was not new, but had been repackaged as if new, not as a refurbished product. It was sold as new as well. I don't think that the seller knew, since it is guaranteed through Amazon. The tablet was first registered with Dell in September or October. Since it was not released in the u.s. (As far as I know) until then, it has some shady history. I am going through the process of getting a refund, then I will probably buy another. At this point, I can only give it three stars. I am still trying to figure out who to contact about problems at Dell. The community forums seems to be where they want me to go, so I am trying to get my password from them. It is an old account.... As my background for my response, I have had two Nexus 7 tablets, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7". The good is that it is really quick and responsive. It accepts the finger swipes, etc quickly. The screen is also very sharp and detailed. The Cons now. Since I received it yesterday, It crashed several times on Amazon Appstpre downloads. Also, while running it last night, it froze on a screen, then on the boot up screen. I had to do a hard something to turn it off to boot again. The hard something that I did was holding down the power button and the volume up button for 10 or 15 seconds, The other con is that the SD card is usable for only photos and music. Using a transfer to SD app, I am told that the system uses emulated storage, which will not allow me to transfer anything except data to the SD card. Since some of my reference programs are very large, this is a big disappointment. It is also something that can be changed by the manufacturer, My Samsung Tab 4 allowed programs to be moved to the SD card. so it can be done in Android version 4. So, all in all, I am disappointed with the execution of this tablet. the price is great, but a crashing tablet is of not much use. When they fix the problems by updates, I will review and change this review, sigh.

Great for surfing, email, and streaming. It is not a 'gaming' device.
Had I paid the full price as it was advertised when Dell first came out with it I'd be extremely disappointed. I took a flyer for less than $80 on a Warehouse Deal and actually like this device. There is a lot of negativity out there on it because I think many bought it because it was cheap and wanted more of a 'gaming' tablet, which this device is not. That said, I did have to disable a lot of the 'junk' apps that it comes pre-installed with. Chrome, as mentioned in a lot of places, does not work well on this device. However, the stock browser works just fine for me and what I do with it. I do wish Dell had put 2 GB of Ram into this list its predecessor. But for a surfing, emailing, Amazon Instant Video, and other streaming device it does the job. If you're looking for a 'gaming' tablet, I do advise looking at other devices with a better processor and more ram.

High quality tablet for a cheapie unit price
Needed a tablet for my 7 yr old daughter for Christmas. Bought this and 2 cheaper no-names that had 4 and 5 stars to compare. This was definitely the one. Its screen and the rest of the construction are much better than the cheapies. But the thing is, this has cheap price also (slightly higher than the no-names, but still cheap compared to an I-Pad or Samsung). There were a lot of negative reviews about apps freezing, chrome not working, etc. Not sure if those folks are non-tech savy, got lemon units, or some combination of both. This unit worked perfectly out of the box, and after a week of heavy little girl use, there has not been a single problem that I have detected. Pros: *The display is bright and high-def *The screen is very receptive to touch and quickly responds *performance from a speed standpoint is good *I feel it is a great value Cons: - none that I can find

Great Price. Great Screen. Low Ram. App Compatibility Issues.
In general, I would say that if you can get past some of the app compatibility and slowness because of low ram, then this tablet is a great option. Ultimately, there seem to be better options once you jump to the 200 price mark. This is definitely a frustrating device. It's such an amazing price, and the screen is gorgeous...but it's slow, and there definitely are important apps that aren't compatible. I'm pretty sure the slowness is because it has 1 gig of ram. I found that the "slowness" came when I was trying to switch between apps. The ram is at 3/4 usage when you aren't even doing anything, so clearly another gig of ram would have been a great addition. I didn't actually encounter any of the cpu problems that everyone else seems to have encountered. It played 1080p youtube videos without any problem. It also played games just fine. The screen really is great. Colors are rich, the screen is bright and crisp...there really isn't anything to dislike about the screen.

Great Value, Great HD screen, Easy to use
This tablet exceeds all expectations for the price Amazon is offering. The full HD screen is excellent and is perfectly suitable for watching videos or reading on. As many have pointed out there is only 1gb of system memory (different than system storage), however, those that are complaining that it is not enough or it runs slow because of this, should learn how to close apps on a tablet. Of course you can't have tons of apps running at the same time, and android is not that good at automatically closing unused apps, so you'll have to make an extra effort to do it yourself. Otherwise, the screen and all programs are very responsive. I bought this as a gift for my parents, they say it is much easier to use than their laptop, so I decided to get one for my friend for his birthday, I was really so impressed with this tablet I ordered one for myself. If you are not a "power" user and you know how to stop running apps on android, then this tablet is perfect.

Disappointed
I searched around for a new tablet and I happened upon the Dell Venue 7. I decided to go with the 8 because I had a 10 inch tablet and I didn't want to lose too much screen with my upgrade. First of all, the product was supposed to be here in 2 with Prime shipping, but it took an extra 3 days. Guess we're paying for Prime for nothing, eh? The product arrived yesterday, though. I instantly loved the thing, and immediately plugged it in and was greeted with an absolutely gorgeous display. I was happy with my purchase, beyond happy. It was a great big shining light in the middle of a crappy week. Then the problems started. Amazon Music (which I had not even opened) was crashing every 10-20 seconds. I finally got the Amazon Music situation fixed. Not quite sure how I did, but I did. I started installing applications finally, set everything up, it was looking really nice. It was in the middle of installing apps that I realized there was no GPS in the product. Now, I understand I should have researched it a bit more, because then I would have seen that this tablet did not have a GPS, and therefore could not run most of my favorite applications. However, the Nexus 7, which I know has a GPS for certain, doesn't list it either. It honestly never crossed my mind to check, and you would not believe the number of applications, games even, that require a GPS. It just seems like something that most, if not all, tablets have (and I am wrong, apparently). For a second I contemplated not returning it, but here I am. Home, after shipping off this beautiful tablet. If you want a tablet that has a wonderful display, nice controls, and a great keyboard...then you should get this tablet. There are certain applications that cannot run on it, but as long as you don't care about that, I would recommend it. If you want any applications that require a GPS though, I recommend you pay a little bit more and make sure that it does in fact have a GPS.

Complete Waist Of Time!!
I bought this tablet because I had a tablet which was a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7 inch, and it was perfect but I had to share it with my little nephew because his was a cheap tablet that broke, I felt sorry for him and gave him mine so he would not have that problem again( and he thanked me & love it)!! Anyways I thought that since I have a HP 15.6 laptop I didn't need another expensive tablet and just get something cheap but efficient. Wrong move!! I thought in the back of my mind this would be ok since my mom had a Dell PC and I use to have a Dell Mini laptop well I should have went with my gut instinct that told me" don't do it"!! I had sooo many problems with this Tablet, it froze all the time, it would not load my games, and on top of that it says it has Bluetooth but when I tried to connect my Beats wireless earphones it did not connect at all. Also I wasn't able to download most apps and games because it said device not compatible. I play a game called "Bingo Bash" and it's one of my fav and it would not download because it wasn't compatible which made me angry. Also I have a WWE App that I watch pay per views of wrestling every month and it wasn't compatible also. But what made me through with this junk was when I hook up my earphones it would make a loud beeping sound constantly no matter what I did!! I suggest to anyone invest in your money and buy a $200 dollar tablet like a Samsung Tab even a $100-200 will be great, the brand matters a lot as well most are good but known brands like Samsung etc are efficient long lasting. I am going to return this tablet and buy another Samsung tablet those tablets are worth every penny trust me I had one and will always get one of those!! Don't waist your time and money on this crap!!!
