U.S. Navy SEALs in San Diego (Images of America)

Great collection of photos I've never seen before on Navy SEALs/UDT members at home in California. It shows the evolution of the Naval Special Warfare center, the training tactics of the soldiers, fun photos, and the lesser seen/known training program of Navy SEALs working with the seal animals in dive recovery projects. Fun short read and great for guests to look through.

This is a really well reserched book. It provides a great narrative and has a lot of rare photos. I enjoyed it very much.

As a graduate of BUD/S Training (Class 59) and as a Navy SEAL, I had the distinct honor and privilege of serving with Mike Wood at SEAL Team ONE during the Vietnam era. As SEALs we were all aware of the tremendous contributions the men of the Underwater Demolition Teams had made to our heritage, and the tremendous legacy they had built for the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) community. Our training was built upon the lessons learned and earned by those "Naked Warriors" of WWII, and Korea. But outside of the UDT/SEAL compound, much of what the general public knows about the UDT/SEAL Teams comes from the movie "The Frogmen" (starring Richard Widmark), and from more recent fiction works by a variety of authors, most of whom were never part of NSW. The action photographs captured by Mike Wood clearly demonstrate to the world what we did in training, and what it was truly like to prepare for and serve as a member of the SEAL Teams. Words are great, but Mike's photography adds a larger, truly invaluable dimension to the account. The images bring back pain, and joy, and wonder for me; memories of cold water, dark nights, pounding surf, and comrades of unbelievable stature and skill. I urge anyone with even the slightest interest in NSW to obtain a copy of this magnificent collection of photographs! Mike Wood has provided a true window back to that treasured point of time in my life, and I cannot begin to thank him enough!
