Q: Can this be used in place of the 5ah DCB205 for a longer battery life and also use the same charger?

This battery will not work in all DeWalt 20v chargers. You will have to get a charger that will charge it such as the DCB1116 I believe is the model number or the DCB 1118. Either way theDCB112 charger that comes with most 20v tool kits will not work on a 6AH battery.

Q: Why choose this over the Flexvolt?

This is the same capacity as the 6.0 flexvolt. 20v max at 6ah. It doesn't have the switching circuit to change it to 60v max at 2ah. If you don't have flexvolt tools and this one is cheaper it will work exactly the same as the 6.0 flexvolt battery.
