Sturdy and Efficient
There were a lot of choices to organize my knife drawer and I selected the WÜSTHOF Drawer Knife Storage unit. I did not want a block since I do not like having anything on the counters for safety reasons. The knives slip in easily and are easy to select and slide from the unit. I have had no need to clean it, but don't anticipate any issues. All my favorite knives are now in one location and protected.

Great Storage For Knives - Unless You Have A Knife Fetish.....
Apparently my husband has a knife fetish. I always suspected it, but after owning this knife tray for 3 years there is no denying it. When I got it, it fit all of our kitchen knives perfectly, allowing me to get rid of the clunky (and usually dusty) knife block that had been on our countertop for over 20 years. The tray fit in our drawer very nicely and all the knives were neatly lined up and under control. Note, our steak knives are in their own holder so this is just used for cooking knives. Now, somehow, I find myself needing to either buy another one or else get a bigger one. DH has collected MORE kitchen knives and swears he can't get rid of any of them. He rotates through them, with different ones being his "favorite" for a few days before he abandons it for another one that has caught his eye. Now a bunch of knives are laying loose in the drawer between this tray and the cutlery tray and every time I reach in there I half-way expect to lose a fingertip. We're planning to move soon and I brought up the subject of weeding out the kitchen knives and he nearly fainted. It's just like a little kid with 4000 plastic dinosaurs who can't give up a SINGLE ONE of them! I keep forwarding articles to him where the experts say you only need at most THREE kitchen knives, but he ignores them. ...sigh... I suppose there are worse fetishes he could have....[...smile...]Seriously, this tray has worked very well for over 3 years now. If you have no more than 7 knives to store, with no more than 3 of those being long knives, then this should work fine for you. But if you have more knives, or a spouse who can't resist a shiny, sharp new knife, then you should go for a larger one that holds more. Check the dimensions to make sure it fits your drawer.

Fits all my knives
Some reviews have said their knives do not fit. I use standard chef knives Paring knives Bread knives pizza cutter and micro plane all of which fit great in this holder. Even my grapefruit knife fits in the divide between the two sections Although my drawer is 3 1/2 inches deep there is a 4 1/2 inch clearance to the bottom of my countertop which seems to be ample clearance The knives sit on a plastic covered steel shaft. I simply place them on top of the plastic without any pressure so no damage to knife or plastic.

Great product with a minor design flaw, and a simple mod to fix it.
This is a solid product and built very well. I had always used a knife block before but having all the knives out they get dusty and also take up some space on the counter. Now I have this in the drawer it makes my counter very minimalist looking even though I put 15 knives in it.This tray is getting 4 stars only because of a minor flaw: it doesn't really accommodate a long, fat knife properly. I'd imagine anything like a standard 8" knife or beyond, whether its a western chef or a santoku, you will either have the blade tip sticking out or the handle rising too high. It rests this way because of the 4 cross bars that run across the slots. They seem to be holding the structure in place, and also preventing the knife from lowering too deeply and touching the bottom surface (a drawer is what I assume where everyone is putting this in).Now there is a simple modification you can do to make it work. Just saw off the cross bars! The tray won't fall apart, it's solidly built and in my opinion can hold its shape even if I saw off the entire bar near the lower end. But since I only need 3 slots for fatter knives, I sawed off the cross member in 3 slots (picture shows 2, while I was still arranging where I want to put the 3rd chef knife). As you can see from the picture before and after, it worked for me perfectly.

Reclaimed Counterspace!!
Some of my knives had been stored on the counter top in a couple different knife blocks. If you're like me, counter space is at a premium, so with some rearranging, I was able to clear a drawer to move the larger knives from the block to clear at least that portion of real estate. Even with non-skid drawer liner, the knives moved around more than I wanted them to. There had to be a better way to store them. As it happened, I recieved and advert from a company and one of the items they were hawking was an in-drawer knife block. It was a tad smaller than this Wustof model but was twice the price! So I do what I normally do and came over to Amazon to check out their selection. That's when I found 14-slot block. After measuring the drawer to make sure the block would fit (it would!), I ordered same. It arrived in two days and within five minutes, the knives that had been laying loosely in the drawer were now snug in the block, along with the knife steel. And just for good measure, I was able to take the steak knives from the block they were still in and place them in the drawer block as well. So now all the knives are neatly stored in the drawer. They don't have a chance to move around as they are secured within the slots and I've reclaimed long-lost counter space.

Perfect
This knife insert is perfect. We have an abundance of cutting knives and this contained the clutter and created safety while cooking.

poor packaging
nice product but inadequately packaged so it arrived with 3 little dents on corner edges

Garbage
This knife holder is truly a piece of junk. When you set the knives in the allocated slots the actual cutting portion of the blade can rest and sit on the metal spacer bars as they are not properly protected as I have shown in pictures. This is a cheap Chinese made knife holder branded with a reputable German name.

Fantastic use of space
Using a large knife block that sits on your counter is, in my opinion, a waste of space, and when you want to upgrade your knives, it doesn't always fit the new ones. This knife tray freed up a lot of counter space and provides flexible storage for all kinds of knives. I've had it for over two years and the wood still looks great. It's the most efficient, accessible way to store knives that I've seen. I'd never go back.

It's perfect.
I ordered2. One was damaged but Amazon replaced it for me. The wood is great quality. 3 large and long knives fit in each and 2-3 pairing knives. The knives don't giggle around, it protects the knives and it's very safe. Great product.
