Competent Mac-compatible hard drive for both original data and backups.
I use a large external hard drive for two purposes: ordinary backup and to keep my very large ripped CD collection of music for which my main computer disc simply doesn't have room. The large size allows backups with multiple versions so I can go back in time if I need to. Belts and braces, an old school idea. My previous drive died suddenly and this was the best cost/size value I could find from a reputable vendor. In the past, I have had trouble with Seagate drives on my various Mac's, but this one worked immediately without a single problem. It is now handling all the relevant backups (there are several including some cloud stuff) and my music. It is quiet and, so far as I can tell, faster than the drive it replaced. It also seems to be interfering far less in other devices and their operations than the old drive did. That may be, however, because the old drive was complaining about being ill before it died completely and this new one is just being "normally" competent. I gave it 5 stars because it is doing what it is supposed to do without causing any trouble. Assuming it doesn't die a week from now, then it was a good buy. Do remember to reformat away from exFAT before using it on a Mac.

Pretty good!
Just got the HD today. It is doing what it's supposed to do. The speed is fast, but a bit of rumbling when in use. Nothing too major, just put it on a piece of cloth and it should absorb some noise. The LED light is bright (from the inside), so if you have the HD in your bedroom, it might disturb your sleep. I got a 22TB HD at about $400 after tax. So it was about $18CAD per TB, pretty inexpensive compared to what I've bought before, 8TB for $200. Now I don't have to worry about insufficient storage for my photos (JPG and RAW).

Buena combinación de precio y capacidad
Llegó antes de la fecha. Es más pesado y ancho que el modelo anterior probablemente por la capacidad en terabytes. Espero que la durabilidad vaya acorde.

Takeaway - you can buy from this seller - but stay well away from Seagate
I read one article that suggested a 7.3% failure rate within three years for Seagate Expansion drives. Well then lucky me - ordered 2 and one was a brick 24 hours later. Here's the problem. By that time I had already copied 4-5 TB of confidential project data to the drive - the drive that now just clicks and will no longer mount. So .. there is every buyers dilemma with a drive that dies - the sellers expect you to either send back drives with platters full of data or eat the costs and keep the dead ones. The ethical thing to do would be to send a replacement drive and let the user destroy the dead drive - i would have been happy to send pics after introducing the drive to a sledgehammer. Seagate however wanted me to send some parts to satisfy their certificate of destruction process but would provide no documentation as to what parts they needed to satisfy their COD nor any timeframe for replacement - can't make this up. Further, to start the Seagate COD process you have to agree to accept a used drive as a replacement - as someone that paid for a new drive that died within 24 hours you might imagine my reply to that requirement. Update Apr28/26 - After some considerable back and forth between seller and Seagate the seller stepped up and took responsibility and replaced the dead drive. Translation - the seller provided better customer service than the manufacturer was willing to provide. Fair. Thank you. Takeaway - buy from this seller - but stay well away from Seagate.
