BENFEI SATA to USB Cable, 2in1 USB-C/USB 3.0 to SATA III Hard Driver Adapter Compatible for 2.5 inch HDD and SSD

This review is for the non-powered 2.5 SSD to USB adapter.I needed to transfer a lot of data from an old (but large cap) 3.5 onto a new 2.5 SSD that was going into a media PC. Far too much to use a USB stick, so bought this with the intention of sticking it in the existing PC and copying all the files over while I built the new PC (and had lunch)And that's exactly what happened. The USB/SSD drive appears in Windows explorer and Drive Management as just another HD, and can be used as such. There's only one niggle - and I think this may be a W11 thing, which I'm still getting used to - the drive appears twice in Explorer. Not as two different drives, just the same one - but twice. Doesn't seem to have any effect, it just looks a bit odd.This isn't meant as a permanent installation, so it's understandable that it has a short cable and is effectively a naked device. It does have a very cool integrated adapter to allow use of either USB-A or USB-C ports, which is a good touch.

Works really well, pretty fast connection to boot time. Read speeds seem pretty good.

Years ago I had a laptop, which I installed a new drive upon with the cloned contents. Fast forward a year, the laptop had died. The drive was fine, but sat there unchecked for a good while.While I could have used an internal cable and connector to mount it within a tower case to continue using, an external USB based solution seemed more suitable for the single use case I had - to recover the data on the drive after a few years as I couldn't find some old files.Absolutely perfect for the job. Fits with a good strong housing connection, and usb3 cable for quicker transfer. Attach to the 2.5" HDD, stick it on a flat surface and plug in - away you go; absolutely no issues and even now, continue to use it beyond it's original intended use. Just too convenient.Easy.(5 star tech support? Never needed tech support... plug in and play, as they say).

Blimey, who thought a simple adapter could make life easier and save a heap of old data? This little gadget turned out to be a lifesaver. I picked it up after my ancient laptop gasped its last breath, hoping to salvage my holiday photos and some forgotten work documents. Plugged it in, and it was a doddle, transferred all that data onto my new SSD before you could say "Bob's your uncle!"The build quality is top-notch, feels like it could withstand the apocalypse, though the cable's a tad short, making it a bit of a dance with my desktop setup. No overheating issues which is a plus when you're wrangling with terabytes of data. Perfect for those quick drive clones or just getting your old Xbox 360's hard drive back into action without any faff.One snag, it threw a wobbly with one of my older drives, but hey, three out of four ain’t bad. If you've got a 3.5” drive, bear in mind it might throw a strop without additional power. All in all, a sturdy bit of kit I’m chuffed to have in my tech arsenal.

So 6Gbps on the USB-C sounds big, until you realise it's Giga "bits" per second, which is 700Mb/s.When I transferred a 5.7GB Movie, it was only transferring at 310Mb/s... Could just be my computer though...And 20 seconds to transfer 5.7GB is not that bad either, so I am not too fussed.I have an old kit that provides power to the SSD and a separate SATA to USB transfer cable that transfers that same 5.7GB movie in 3 seconds. But again, for the convenience of not having all those cables about, the speed trade off is worth it for having this little transfer cable, especially if travelling.

The device works fine on my windows machine but unbeknown to me the chip inside it ,manufactured by jmicron, does not play well with the Pi4 or apparently linux in general.Since that is what I needed it for, this item has not done the job I need, but does work enough that I can see a use for it for the sake of the £5 I paid for it.
