This Luna Bean casting set is such an incredible gift for a grandparent or a new mom/dad. I bought one of these a couple of years ago to make a surprise gift for my sister when her daughter was born and I can assure you nothing meant more to her.This set comes with separate hand and foot containers/gel for mold/casting powder. They have definitely improved since the last time and now you do not have to reuse anything- a cup for the hand and separate bags of materials, same for the foot. It is super nice to have the markings on the containers. Note that the lines on the containers hold slightly more than the measuring cup measurements. Look at EYE LEVEL so you do not add too much water!From experience, believe them when they tell you the best temperature for the water and make sure you use it. A digital meat thermometer works well here. It's also very helpful to have a second person holding the baby while the other gets the kit ready. Don't try to do both hand and foot at the same time. I HIGHLY recommend you do this when the baby is a week or two old as they are less squirmy. For older babies, putting them in a highchair for both the hand and the foot seems like a good way to reign them in. Of course provide a snack. Reschedule for another day if baby is fussy from the start.I used a tiny $1 whisk to stir the gel and casting powder (rinse!) and then just threw it out. I didn't whisk hard, but it did help. I used a plastic spoon to make sure all the powder was out of the corners before I whisked. Use a touch of baby oil massaged onto the hand/foot to help with the casting. My results were great, although it does take patience.They give you a tiny piece of sandpaper to smooth things. Work gently! I found emery boards were easier to use, and I took my time- several days- to create a nice finish. Be careful not to sand off fingerprints and other baby lines!This would be a super shower gift. Although I am waiting for my daughter's new baby to use this kit, I know from experience that this is a fabulous item that takes a little time and patience, and a cooperative baby.Incidentally, I think this would make a lovely way to cast a souvenir of something precious- the face of a beloved baby doll two sisters shared, or the sweet little clay bowl your child made for you but your mother always wanted, too.

Ordered several cast kits from luna and they are absolutely the best. I have never regretted it and it comes out so perfect you don’t have to be a pro at it. Super easy to use even if you do it for the very first time. It even has a video tutorial if that is easier to follow for you. Simple and fun process for a long lasting memory of your little ones feet and hands

The foot came out full of bubble holes and the hand two of the fingers broke off coming out.

that's a nice kit, it has all the required tools. I won't be using it soon until my baby is born.
