I believe the 75cm length refers to the step platform itself. i.e. the base is wider that the platform at 102cm but the usable platform at the top is 75cm as it gets narrower at the top. I think you may be talking about the clips that hold the raisers in place. They are extremely tight to begin with and it is very difficult to take the raisers off, you really need to summon up all your strength to do it! After a while though they ease up and there's no problem - in fact they can become too loose and the raiser starts falling off! It's best to set the step at the best height for you at the moment and leave it there until you need to increase the height when your fitness has improved.
