Scrubs : Complete Season 6 [2007] [DVD]

Drop-off.
Unlike in Britain, where sitcoms tend to have shorter series and quit while they're ahead, American comedies are bled dry by the networks and finish long after they should have. Scrubs, one of the funniest and most original shows on television for its first three or four seasons, had a considerable drop-off in quality by its fifth season. As so often happens, characters became exaggerated versions of themselves and everything starts to feel familiar. As such, season six is the sixth best season of Scrubs. Many of the problems from the fifth season remain - Dr. Kelso, previously just an out-of-touch, but loveable chauvinist, is still a sexual deviant in an unfunny way. As with Family Guy, many background or one-off jokes which were funny the first few times like the security guard with a hook hand are worn out. The biggest problem of all is Zach Braff's JD, who as well as not being nearly as funny as he was in the first few seasons is now scarcely likeable. The mistakes he makes are blindingly obvious, the morals of the stories can be spotted from the end of the first act, and several characters seem to be working a tad too hard for their jokes to be funny. There are also a number of sloppy in-jokes, references to other sitcoms and worst of all, a clip show which even by clip show standards is abysmal. Storyline wise, it's a mixed bag - aside from the aforementioned 'painfully obvious morals' trend, the serious emotional storyline around episode 19 is well handled and fitting (although they cop out by the next season). The 'everybody's pregnant!' ending of the previous season which continues here seemed like the work of a hack in the first place, while the ending of the last episode is utterly hopeless, and again, easy to see coming. However, the season is far from irredeemable. Neil Flynn's Janitor is still very, very funny and stays within the bounds of his character. John C. McGinley's Dr. Cox, while unnecessarily vindictive at times even by his standards, is still very funny, as is Chris Turk. Better yet, Keith Dudemeister, an interesting new character from season 5 continues to be rounded out across season six, fitting in with the show's surreal nature as well as remaining appealingly down to earth at the same time. What's more, there is one reason above all others to buy this DVD, and that is 'My Musical,' the entirely musical episode of the show. Brilliantly directed, choreographed, written and sung, as well as being the funniest episode of the previous two seasons, it would be enough to make this DVD box set worth buying on its own. As far as special features, the monotonous, predominantly one-person audio commentaries aren't much worth listening to (aside from Neil Flynn's absurdist humour), but extensive 'making-of' features on the My Musical episode, an interview with Judy Reyes (Carla Turk) and a feature on the background characters like Colonel Doctor are all worth watching at least once. So, while this is by far not the best season of Scrubs, it's still well worth a buy for its quality moments.

a hell of a lot better then I expected!
I have been reading reviews on season 6 for months now and have been hearing people talk about it after watching it on tv (i dont watch it till it comes out on dvd...:)) and I never heard anything positive. It made me very nervous! However now that it finally has come out and I have watched it I'm glad I had those low expectations as I was completely surprised, I think it is high above season 5 for story content and character development. I would even go as far as to say its better then season 1 and 2 in some ways. Some people may get annoyed that it follows the same formula as before but why should they change it? it works! They have been more experimental in ways they have done some of the episodes, i.e the musical one, which is very clever. And most importantly it is still as funny as its ever been. If your a scrubs fan of any kind you should enjoy this. Everyone will have their own opinion but mine is that you should buy it now!

Scrubs season 6
Scrubs season 6 starts out with JD facing the fact that Kim is pregnant, and, without giving anything away, that storeyline proceeds. Turk and Carla have Isabella, their daughter and also, Dr Cox and Jordan's unborn child is born [after having to have a post-natal surgery]. A big event is a death of one of the characters... I loved this season, and there are many highlights - eg the musical episode 'My Musical'. A must buy for whenever it's out if you have a dvd player/computer/xbox/xbow 360/ps2/ps3.... - you see where I'm going with this - you'd be mad not to.Ps - don't let anyone tell you otherwise [they're just Greys Anatomy/House/ER fans] - Scrubs is the best medical show around - and the best for comedy AND drame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent
Excellent musical score held together by a well-considered narrative. Me and my flatmate really enjoyed "everything comes down to poo" (inside joke), "when the truth comes out" was stuck in my head for days, and "guy love" is classic. Up there with "toss a coin to your witcher" (if you know, you know)

Great programme... annoyed it's no longer part of Prime Membership
Love this programme having seen lots of it in the past so decided to watch it all from the beginning. Managed to get through series 1-5 only to come to series 6 and find out that Amazon have now decided it's no longer part of Prime Membership and are charging £17.99 per series... WHY?Just another greedy corporation trying to milk even more money out of loyal customers... not happy!

SCRUBS
I just love watching all the series. It has captured a truly great way of incorporating comedy with moral issues. It will make you laugh and shed a tear at times. It may even give you answers to little trivial questions you may be looking for.Truly another hit to watch over and over again.Go on buy it. Start at series one and work your way through as it is one long story.

funny as usual
Loved this series, again with lots of laughs and nicely up-dated there situations inc heard hitting topics with a food for though at the end of most of the episodes. Still keeping the overall feel light hearted. Not keen on the character who has JD's baby just don't find her as smooth with the acting as the others.Box set season 6 good if your a scrubs fan.
