Evapo-Rust CRC Heavy Duty Rust Remover for Metal and Tools - 5 Gallon

In lesser times a man would have been charged with witchcraft or accused of alchemy for what this product can do! In a recent overhaul of an engine driven welder salvaged from the floods of Helene, I have dunked every conceivable part into this magic liquid. Bolts come out a sparkling steel grey. I dunked a whole starter in it and removed the rust completely allowing me to salvage the component. Engine ducts, carburetor, stator, coils, it doesn’t matter. Everything comes off with a good rinse with plain water and a very small amount of scrubbing. It’s magic!

This stuff is nothing short of Awesome!!!! If you are lazy or don't have time to spend hours sanding off rust, this is your answer. I have written maybe 3 reviews my entire life and this stuff is worthy of a review!!! I use it for removing the rust off old weights from bench press sets, works like a charm. Only thing is it takes time, don't think you will take off 20yrs of rust in two minutes, give it 12-24hrs (depends on how bad the rust) and it will come out looking like new! I buy the 5gallon size and boy do I need it, it says you can reuse it over and over but each time you use it, you will notice it takes a little longer to work, after about three heavy uses (massive rusted parts filled to the top of the bucket) it slows down significantly and the product at least in my instance turns black (probably from the paint on the weights i suspect) As far as paint is concerned yes it kinda takes it off a little?? but its seriously is hard to tell because there is so much rust on these weights thats I'm not sure how much black paint was initially there to begin with. It seems to really just attack the rust. Oh and its seems ridiculously safe very low oder but i will say it kinda has a very faint sulfur (rotten egg) smell but like i said very faint and hardly noticeable (also one of the weights got away from me and splashed in the bucket and this stuff went everywhere including my face and nothing at all happen just wiped it of and went on about my business). Yellowish, like a crappy beer, in color. Also whats great about this stuff is you can just leave you project in there as long as you want 2, 3 even 4 days no adverse effects once the rust is removed it just will sit there waiting for your next project, and it will leave the unrusted bare metal alone. Do yourself a favor and buy big!!! If your like me you will start to find tons of metal tools and the like around the house that have rust on it. PS you will need to dunk, at least the rusted area, and leave it submerged, for a significant amount of time so this stuff is NOT good for tables and chairs and the very large objects.

This is not something you can spray on and expect us to be removed but if you have an item that you can dip in the solution and leave overnight you will be amazed with the results. Best part is you can keep on using it over and over. Most people that need to remove rust are aware that if you don't protect your newly on rusted item it will rust again. Follow directions by cleaning your parts and applying rust inhibitor or proper primer and finish. I purchased this 5 gallon to restore a big CNC machine that was left to rust for years and I have this machine looking like it did when it was purchased. I took off the screws and bolts and just left them to dip overnight then put them back on or spray them with rustoleum Black rust converter and it is amazing what you can do in a short amount of time if you use it properly. This is another item I wish I would have known years ago how good it works but it's only made for items that you can dip and leave sitting in the solution so don't expect to take a vehicle and drop it into this 5 gallon bucket.

I live in Florida and my garage is a work shop. It is a combination of blacksmithing and woodworking area. Because of new job and blacksmithing priorities, the woodworking side of things had been ignored for about 6 years. A few months back I decided to get my shop in order. Aside from taking measures to reduce humidity, I also found that many of my tools had heavy coatings of rust. Because of the amount of work and the size of the pieces, I decided to go with the 5 gallon drum. It has really brought back my shop. I've cleaned up my chisels, my clamps, saws, hammers and so on. This stuff is a miracle. A few hours soak is enough for light rust. A few days with some light scrubbing will usually be enough for heavier rust. As an example, I own two drill presses. Both of them have surface rust on the work areas but they also had bad rust on the main column. I disassembled the drill presses and I was able to soak the column in the 5 gallon drum. I did have to do one half and flip it over to do the other half. I was also careful to seal off the drum to prevent loss of the product do the evaporation. When I pulled the column out it was a amazing. There was a little bit of darkness where the rust had been located but a few wipes with a green pad and some fresh water and it was like new. This stuff does work and it works very well. As a note, after you clean up a piece and dry it off, do not forget to immediately rust protect it with wax, grease, oil or some other protectorate. The surface will be especially vulnerable to rusting after cleaning it up.

I have used this over many years. Great stuff works fast. I have noticed some complaints that it doesnt work as well. When I first bought it years ago, I had some difficulty. It worked good, but the material would lose its effectiveness. I experimented....Now it works amazingly. First, make sure your part is free of all oils and grease. oils and grease will contaminate the fluid. Secondly use a secondary container. No need to contaminate the entire bucket for some small parts. Use a left over yogurt container or bowl or something like that and pour the fluid into it. Cover the container so the fluid does not evaporate. The fluid will last a long time. Do not pour the remainder back in the bucket. Do not contaminate the bucket. The last time I purchased was 5 years ago and that was two 3.5 gallons buckets....and I just recently ran out of it. Also, I agree that I miss the pour spout from the 3.5 gallon version. Luckily I kept my 3.5 gallon containers so I transferred the lid with the spout to the 5 gallon container. Plus I use the 3.5 gallon container with the strainer for larger parts. Again, make sure that parts of free of oil and grease, and use separate container to de-rust. And finally, dont put used fluid back in the virgin fluid. Happy de-rusting

Works pretty well. Cut my blast time in half. Only wish it came with a basket. So took away one star.

Used it on a complete restoration of a 1947 Jeep that had a LOT of rust. I tried brake cleaner and acid first, but this was better than anything I have used! I first thought it was "Pricey", but its worth the money for a safe and fast rust removal Use gloves, but it won't burn you if it gets on your skin.

Originally I bout a gallon of this product from a popular hardware store to remove rust on my 4Runner engine parts. I was so amazed at how it worked that I bought the 5 gallon bucket from Amazon to dip my engine block from a 1991 1.6 Miata. I bought a hard rectangular plastic storage container, I placed the engine block in there, then carefully poured in the Evapo-Rust liquid. In only 5 hours I slightly raised up the engine block and I could clearly see how well it was working to remove the rust. The best part is that it's safe to the skin & it's reusable. It won't smoke like sulfiric acid or other chemicals. It works best if every so often you scrub the parts with a mechanics cleaning brush or the rough green scuff pads. The next engine block I will be rust treating is with Evapo rust is my 1989 mustang v8 engine block. I think I will need to buy a second 5 gallon for a v8 block. By the way you must treat the engine block afterwards with sulfiric acid from Klean Strip concrete & metal etcher, then primer the block with epoxy primer, then paint it in order to avoid it from rusting. No worries about the inside of the engine since coolant is corrosive resistant as well as the oil.
