CLEP® Calculus Book + Online (CLEP Test Preparation)

This is the highest rated book for studying for the clep. I’m excited to work though it. So far it is very easy to read and understand

Thanks to this book and its included practice tests, I passed and got credit for the CLEP exam! I was fairly confident before I bought the book, but bought this book just incase. I am very glad I did as I ended up failing the practice test by a small margin. After some practice and reviewing with this book I was able to pass the CLEP easily. Advice: DO THE ONLINE TESTS. Take them several times until you understand every question. They are very important and look a lot like questions you will see on the CLEP

PROS: Thorough, yet brief and easily understandable explanations of the core concepts. Written in language closely aligned with the CLEP exam (ie: teaches to the test). Appropriately challenging sample questions provide strong preparation tool for the exam. Many sample questions with detailed/step-by-step explanations. CONS: ALARMING NUMBER OF TYPOS! Typos in a widely circulated publication are bad enough, but in a math exam prep text they are especially egregious. Nearly all of them are notation mistakes where a minus sign or the like is missing, or a problem's solution states a slightly different question than that which was asked. It is very confusing. I'm sorely disappointed in REA for their lack of attention to detail in this text. Their other guides are stronger than this. With the typos in mind, and the brief explanations, I can only recommend this text as a final preparation tool for the CLEP after having already learned and practiced the material elsewhere. It is best used as an orientation to the style of calculus problems the CLEP will contain. The CLEP questions are quite different than other Calculus 1 study tools, so this text is very helpful in that regard. This text IS NOT to be used for learning the material! Far too many mistakes and not enough detail.

Before I say anything here just want to remind you that you need to have the prerequisite here to take calculus. I went through all the book, did all the practice on the back of the book and online many time and took the Excelsior Calculus Exam after 3 weeks and Pass with a B grade(86%) People giving bad rating to this book is simply because they did not have have a foundation to take the class.Trigonometry, college Algebra and many others are assumed to be known. I have always use REA for all my Exam, and you should combine the book with online youtube Videos. There are whole semester classes posted online, always watch them all, then work through your book, and finally take the practice exam. There is no way you fail any exam if you follow theses steps. CLEP French 75% use REA CLEP Intermediate Algebra 65% use REA Pearson vue CALCULUS 86% USE REA Working on BIOLOGY, PHYSIC and STATISTICS, and I already purchase all my REA books.

This book saved my behind with the CLEP test. I'd argue that the CLEP Calculus exam covers quite a few topics which aren't necessarily given a lot of time in a traditional Calculus class. This book (along with the online tests) were KEY to me passing the CLEP Calculus exam. Also, I'd recommend buying a new version for the online practice exams.

Book appears to outline what is needed to know for exam. But does a poor job of explaining concepts and techniques. Many subjects are not explained at all.
