Black Gelcoat No Wax Quart with 15cc Hardener (MEKP)

Great product but I'd recommend buying a cheap scale and measuring 2% by weight hardner to ensure best performance, as the 'drops per ounce' ratios are low I think. This company make great products and are easy to deal with.

The media could not be loaded.  After buying two different times from my local boat store and getting it home to find that it's at best thick like cottage cheese I decided to order this off of Amazon. I make custom fiberglass car parts and speaker boxes and this gel coat worked perfectly for what I did. I will be buying again. I found the black gel coat makes it easier to see air bubbles under your fiberglass mat

As this gelcoat hardens, a slimy layer forms at the surface. This is NOT like normal gelcoat that is supposed to stay tacky so you can add more coats without sanding. This slime layer will not harden ever. As you sand, the slime layers get exposed, cause chipping and will be visible defects in your work unless you sand every bit of the gelcoat back off.I have found that it is still possible to use, but you have to use dozens of acetone soaked paper towels to remove every last speck of slime before adding a new coat. This will allow one coat to bond to the next so you can build up thickness before sanding, and you don't sand into the slime. This takes considerably longer than sanding and has to be done perfectly for every layer or you will be sanding off every bit of this product.It can be used successfully with a huge amount of extra labor if you have no other choices, but if you can get a different gelcoat, use that instead.

My first experience with gelcoat, easier to use than i expected. Boat v-keel had deep scratches and chips. sanded to about 6 inches either side of keel, filled deep scratches with bondo glass. sanded again. Then used this gelcoat on top. 2 coats. Wax in final coat. I rolled on both coats with roller. Would take more wet sanding and buffing than I have patience for to fully blend in, but looks fine and is watertight. Scratches and chips are gone.I was concerned about drying issues, but the top coat dried fast with wax (purchased separately from same vendor) mixed in.

Make sure you store this outside, unopened and the smell is horrid

We had a fiberglass light pole that was getting stringy. This was easy to use ( be sure to read instructions carefully) dried fast and adhered the strings back together . It looks great now.
