Direct Replacement
It isn't a fun job, but got it done. I was pleased to see an oil filter element inside the housing when I inspected it. What a nice surprise! looks exactly like the original that was leaking.

Mostly okay with a caveat
This item performs at least three important functions- it holds the oil filter, it maintains proper crankcase pressure, and when installed it also holds the oil dipstick tube in place. This item was shipped promptly and so far as I can tell it is a perfect replacement for the original, with one exception. While it has a hole for attaching the oil dipstick tube, I guess the factory forgot to thread the hole because there aren't any threads. This was something I didn't notice until I'd already bolted it in place. Anyway, I took it out again and using some oil and a wrench I was able to make my own threads with a spare screw of the same size. I've actually ordered more than one of these and so far all of them exhibit the same defect. Not a deal killer now that I am aware of it, but I normally don't expect to have to install my own threads in something advertised as a replacement part. Minus one star for the missing threads.
