use as a dog poop bucket
this thing works great for what I use it for, I live in perhaps the windiest place on the planet, Chicago doesnt even come close. I got sick of picking up the lid to 5 gallon buckets on the other side of the yard and dealing with the bucket being filled with rain water, this stopped all of that, its very strong, the lid is heavy and attached, it has a foot pedal which is great and its made of super strength plastic so no worries about rusting out or anything. its a bit pricey but considering the quality of it its not a big deal, ypu get what you pay for.

Great for Big Dog poop!
With a minor modification, this has been great for our 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs, who produce an absurd amount of poop. In the image, you can see that I added two inverted adhesive hooks (something like https://www.amazon.com/Command-GP001-9NA-White-Hooks/dp/B00006IBLK/ref=sr_1_2) to hook the garbage bags to (yes, bags... I double bag... have you seen the size of BMD poop?!?!?!). This has worked great using the Kirklands 13-gallon kitchen bags and so long as it is emptied once a week.

wish the foot pedal was a little better
We are using this for dog poo in our yard. Since it's sturdy and has a wide opening it works well but the only downside is the foot pedal is a little hard to use because when you step on it, it pushes the can away from you unless you have it sitting backed up against something.

Use for dog waste. Step to open- piece is broken.
The piece inside the lid that enables the step to open was off. We tried to super-glue it back on. Did not stay. Will try again. Otherwise, works to hold dog waste.

Great Dog Poop Collector!!!
Does the job!!! We have 3 dogs and a small back yard so poop is a problem. We decided to try using the Black Oily Waste Can to collect the poop. We put in a black kitchen trash bag and regularly clean the yard placing poop into the waste can. Once a week we empty the can into our trash can for collection by the garbage company. No more smelly trash can in our garage. I've even started putting the poop bags from dog walks into the Black Oily Waste Can to further eliminate any odor in our garage. We keep the Black Oily in our back yard and never have any odors come from it throughout the week.....except for when we open the lid to make our 'deposits'! Love this.

Does exactly what it is supposed to do.
Foot peddle didn’t open enough at first but now opens very wide. I was able to put a liner in it for dog poo bags. Peeled the ugly label off and it sits discretely on my patio with ZERO smells coming from it, except when you open it to throw more poo bags in it. This was an excellent purchase for me.

STEP TO OPEN Failed on 3 use.
Sure looked like just the thing I wanted UNTIL the third use. A part of the cover fell off and "step on open" function no longer works. Was going to return BUT just too much trouble and had thrown the box in the garbage this AM. IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF A SIMILAR ITEM (in our case for dog waste) I think it would be better to upgrade to one of the red metal units. The step to open on those units appear to be much better designed.

NOT for dog poo!
I think MANY look at this to use in their yards to clean up after their dogs. It's not made for this obviously and does NOT work for this. First, you can't use a bag. Well, you CAN use a bag but it's not going to stay put. The way the lid and step mechanism are designed just don't allow for a bag to go all the way around the rim, stay put ( it can’t hook around the entire back) and then have the lid close on top. Also, the lid doesn't open far enough to dump a large scooper into it. And be aware the bottom of the can isn’t flat. There’s a big hump straight down the middle over the step mechanism.
