SMALLRIG 4-in-1 USB-C Hub with Cold Shoe Mount -4598

I bought this mainly as a compact USB-C hub to keep in my camera bag, and it's proved to be one of those accessories that's useful far more often than I expected.When I'm out filming, it's handy to have a reliable hub that lets me quickly connect storage devices, card readers or other USB accessories to my MacBook without having to remember multiple adapters. Having PD pass-through charging is also useful, as I can keep the laptop powered while using the other ports.The build quality is excellent, which is what I've come to expect from SmallRig. The aluminium body feels robust, the connectors fit securely and it's compact enough that it doesn't take up much room in my bag.I also like that it includes a cold shoe mount. While I don't use that feature every day, it's a clever addition that gives you the option of mounting the hub to a camera rig or cage if your workflow calls for it, rather than having it dangling from a cable.Most of the time it simply lives in my camera bag ready for whenever I need it, and that's probably the biggest compliment I can give it. It's one of those accessories you don't think about until you need it, and then you're very glad you packed it.If you're looking for a well-made, compact USB-C hub for photography or filmmaking, this is an excellent option. It's become a permanent part of my kit and has saved me more than once when I've needed extra connectivity on location.

Have now used this hub several times on a SmallRig cage and am impressed. It has given me the connectivity and versatility I was wanting and have used it in several slots to decide on the placement I prefer. The hub comes with a rubberised (on one side) type clip on the bottom to ensure it will not come loose in the hot shoe fittings on the cage and it works very well. I’m sure it will also make for a perfect travel type USB-C hub when travelling as it is so compact. I might just order a 2nd one anyway as it will get used.

Good build quality and loved the cold shoe adapter but unfortunately didn't work for me the way I needed. The connector wouldn't fit through the cage into the phone without an adapter which made it too long and interferred with the handle. And tbh I think usb 2.0 is outdated now, it should just have 3x 3.1 for faster data transfer so I'd need less accessories with me in a shoot. 1 star down for that.I had it connected with, External storage, Wireless Audio recorder and a Power bank.

Prefect. Worth buying the branded version with the clip for ease of mounting and the tight angled connector.

A very low quality product, doesn’t work properly with combination of their own SSD m.2 handle and small power bank. Can’t record in ProRes on iPhone 15 Pro, randomly interrupting the recording after 2 - 20 minutes. Other people have their same issues. Double checked the cables, ports used and also tried with other power bank and without the power bank but with connected microphone. This product is useless and it was a part of their Brandon Li phone cage so I can’t return it without returning the whole kit. Now I had to buy different hub from the well known brand and also a holder to it, so I’m out £60 which was the ‘deal’ price difference on the cage. Not happy about that.

As you'd expect from small rig, great, does exactly what it needs to splitting power input and audio.

Hub indispensabile se si utilizza un cage, oltre ad avere la clip compatibile con l’hot shoe, rende possibile collegare simultaneamente un microfono, un ssd e un powerbank allo smartphone, consigliato.

Great little USB hub if you understand it only has 1 port capable of USB 3.1/10Gbps and that there is no video supported through that port. So you can't connect a USBC to HDMI out for example. But it does do well to enable me to plug into my iPhone and get extra ports to an external SSD to record video, an external Rode USBC mic, and keep everything powered. I would love for a newer version to include an HDMI out as well as a second 10Gbps port.
