Everything is alive, Slowdive's 5th record, is exactly what the title suggests: an exploration into the shimmering nature of life and the universal touch points within it. While there are parts of this record that could sit neatly next to the atmospheric quality of 1995's Pygmalion; everything is alive also manages to break down the boundaries of what's come before it. Spanning psychedelic soundscapes, pulsating 80's electronic elements and John Cale inspired journeys, the album lands immediately as something made for the future; which figures, as their fanbase has grown younger & younger as time has gone on. For a genre that is often thought of as divisive, and often warrants introspection, here Slowdive show their craft as the masters of it by pushing it outwards, beyond the singular; the end result being a record which feels as emotional and cathartic as it is hopeful.

Review: ich liebe slowdive schon lange, ich mag alle alben sehr. kings of shoegaze! sie waren lange von der bildfläche verschwunden, nachdem sie anfang der 90er jahre durch grunge und britpop verdrängt wurde und sie speziell von der englischen musikpresse verachtet wurden...sie waren der zeit voraus und hatten einen großen einfluss auf viele musiker. dann kam das sensationelle comebackalbum, das von fans und den kritikern zu recht gefeiert wurde, die konzerte waren ausverkauft und endlich hatten sie den erfolg, den sie verdienen. jetzt sind sie zurück! sie haben sich viel zeit genommen, was man hören kann. sie sind, was der große john peel über the fall sagte: always different, always the same. man kann nach sekunden hören, dass es slowdive sind, aber das album klingt anders als der vorgänger, aber denoch vertraut. einige tracks erinnern an ihre frühe werke, pygmalion scheint manchmal durch, aber alles ist sanft transformiert in die heutige zeit, dabei zeitlos. bis auf die single kisses ist die musik psychedelischer als "slowdive", es dominieren melancholische und nachdenkliche töne, bittersweet. herbstmusik, einfach schön. ich freue mich auf das konzert und empfehle das neue werk allen slowdive fans und allen, die es noch werden.

"Everything Is Alive" de Slowdive offre une évolution intéressante de leur son caractéristique. Plus pop que les albums de leurs débuts, il brille par ses mélodies minutieuses et ses textures électroniques raffinées. Les voix harmonieuses de Rachel Goswell et Neil Halstead restent captivantes, et les contributions de la guitare de Christian Savill, ainsi que la basse et la batterie de Nick Chaplin et Simon Scott, ajoutent une profondeur tonale unique.
