Stromberg CarlsonFP1001-R Lend-A-Hand Foam Grip

Went on super easy once we learned the secret. The secret is... coat the entire INSIDE of foam handle with DISH SOAP. Once the foam is coated, start at the top of RV handle, push on, NEVER pull on it. If you do it will tear. When reinstalling the nuts on the bolts after the spring is installed, the trick is needle nose vice grips. Was totally worth the work, it looks great!

Amazon description shows 14 x 10 x 4.5 inches size. I don't know where these come from. the item is 9 1/2" long. I doesn't come near the 11 1/2" of my current one, which is supposed to be the same item number. I tried to return the item, but they don't give me any other choices.

I needed to replace my bar that got bent. Mine already has the aluminum mounting blocks that appear to be the same as the one in the photo. It is simple to remove the bolt and remove the bar, which is something I do about every other year to replace the foam grip that gets weathered and worn. This bar doesn't come with foam and has a locking style black block which I didn't need and differs from the photo. To remove the bar from the blocks I needed to cut the tooth starlock washers that held the pin in. This seemed to be a little excessive as my model is just a both with a nut and easily removed in minutes.If you need to remove the bar from the mounting blocks to put on a foam handle, you'll probably need new starlock washers to replace the ones you need to forcibly remove. Other than that the bar (which is the only part I needed) is great.

This grip is a bit difficult to get into place. I followed the recommendation on the package and sprayed Simple Green on the metal railing first, as well as coated the inside of the new grip. It took maybe 5 or so minutes of edging the grip on a quarter inch at a time and trying to keep the entire grip moving, and not getting stretched or ripped.The instructions suggest using an air compressor to force air under the grip. This wasn't very convenient for me, so I don't know if that would have made things easier or not.Once the grip is in place, the entire assembly looks as if new. I had previously used black pipe insulation and found that it wasn't secure and was somewhat unsightly. I recommend going with this replacement grip.

It arrived as folded in half! Had to straighten it out and let it sit for 2 days hoping the crease doesn't get set. I used soapy water to try to slide in but with that crease, its difficult to do so I used air compressor with blow gun. It helped lot better but still a bear to put it on with lots of soapy water and air. It comes with stainless steel bolts, nuts and springs to replace what you have on the handle.2 months later, crease is gone and handle is functional. Would I do it again? Maybe. It would be better for me to buy the whole thing and replace what I have rather than spending 1 hour taking apart and trying to get the foam on and reinstall just to save 10-20 dollars.

This is not easy to replace. The keeper on the original won't go back on, so they provide a new bolt. But you can't really fit a wrench in to hold the nut.

Just what was needed to replace one that was torn and partly missing. Easy enough to install, comfortable to grab although seemed a hair thinner then original. Would absolutely recommend as a replacement.

It did take a while to put this foam grip on but the time spent was worth it! Made quite a difference in the ĺooks and the "feel" of the assist handle. The handle gets extremely hot in the sun. The foam grip gets warm too but doesn't burn like the metal. Thanks!
