better than most expensive diagnostic.......
So easy to use and does the job right from the start it is probably the best that I have used just gave my old snap on away only six months old cost me a fortune to use .All the code's are so easy access and work's well . As for value for my snapon cost around £3.000 . so it works, good value, and it so much quicker than my old one,and appearance is first class so clear and precise thanks again........

Good piece of kit
I have been using this for a week or so now, and so far I’m very impressed. Very simple user interface and has done everything I have needed it to. Would definitely tick all the boxes for an enthusiast or a professional wanting something to do the basics I.e code reading, service resets, caliper wind backs and data list reading etc. For the money I would definitely recommend.

Valuable device for diagnostic education before approaching your mechanics
Modern cars can be a nightmare when they go wrong, especially when the issue is electrical. Why do all car dealers feel it’s justified to charge such extortionate monies to simply plug in an electronic device to tell them what the issue is, a process that usually only takes a few minutes. Step in the ThinkCar ThinkScan 689 Bidirectional Scan Tool. The device comes a rather snazzy and sturdy little case to keep it safe. The build quality is very robust, the rubber sides are designed to be gripped like a portable games console, the back has a stand that pops out for convenience and there’s also slots at the top for a USB-A, USB-C and a serial port. After charging up the device for the first time the interface is pretty intuitive and simple to get to grips with. The touch screen is very responsive at this top level and checking for latest updates to ensure the device is bang up to date was a breeze. Now I am not mechanically minded so after connecting to my vehicle to assess how the device operates and to see all the options, the modules that are presented to me with the various possibilities is a bit of a mine field to navigate if you don’t have the expertise. Nevertheless, I played around for some time and can see many options but I did notice the touch response to show some lag at times, especially when attempting to exit a screen, I had to press multiple times until the device would take me back. However, the amount of live data available is very impressive, you can actually see what the car is doing to get a rough idea before approaching a mechanics and hopefully will have the upper hand if they attempt to screw you with a false diagnosis. As a side note, this is not a device that will match the type your mechanics will use, well at least my local garage as to whom explained their diagnostics equipment costs in excess of £4k, so bare that in mind. But I still feel it’s a valuable piece of equipment if you like to educate yourself on your car’s health before letting the professionals get to work.

Nice piece of kit..... BUT
A nice, well made, professional bit of kit with good clear screen and 'remote' obd2 dongle which is already paired to the unit.It requires internet access both for updates and sometimes for the diagnostics ( updated all the data on it and this took about 10 mins ).Plugged it into my aging Qashqai and it duly did its thing and reported on all the systems (the same as any other 'screen' obd2 reader) so far so good, no fault codes so i disconnected the battery to generate some, it found them on next connection and i could easily clear them..... Brilliant. Nothing else to do to so put it back in the supplied case.Que a couple of days later when a friend needed to reset his TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) as he was rotating his tyres (basically moving tyres from front to rear and vice versa on both sides) this is very common and probably should be done every 6 months or so for even tyre wear( I'm old school and have always done this), and here we came across a problem. It would read all the TPMS sensors and their codes as well as all the readings BUT it would not let me reprogram them (change them from front to rear) stating 'security access error', this was after asking for internet access and several warnings that this couldn't be 'undone'.Now admittedly i hadn't done this before so went into the service menu and tried that way but it then said the vehicle was not compatible to do this ( a 2020 MG HS so not an uncommon car ).I don't have access to any other vehicles to test further but its a point to note that you may not be able to do simple 'resets' on service items if your car is not compatible and its quite a bit of cash to expend if it wont do that (just the regular clear DTM codes that any cheap scanner will probably do).Overall a good bit of kit with quite intuitive menu system but expensive if it wont do what you need it to ( Research your car first ). A mechanics view on this may differ if it works for the 'majority' of cars (this is just my personal experience).
