I have used the mini-filter for three years and although it was fine, this is a significant improvement in productivity. The added power of the pump and the larger filter pads makes handling large batches of wine much easier.e sure to place it in a tub (a kitty litter box works fine) to collect the droppings.

I have now filtered 72 gallons of wine through this filter and I am very satisfied. This thing is BIG, and a bit pricey, but it's a clear improvement over the Mini Jet, for which I could not get the leakage under control (so frustrating - now in the trash). The full size unit is easy to set up and filters the wine very quickly with minimal leakage. An added bonus is that the filter pads can be used for multiple batches. I polish three 6-gal batches of well clarified red wine per set of No. 2 filters, and I could probably do twice that, but I only make three batches at a time. The filters are more expensive per set than the mini's, but with the ability to re-use them, overall filter cost is reduced and it saves a great deal of cleaning and set-up time. Not sure how a $400+ price tag is justified, so I have to hold back a star. Certainly not for all hobbyist winemakers because of size and cost, but it was perfect for me.

Not sure where to start. The instructional videos showing set-up and cleaning do not match the actual usage of the machine. The filter leaks profusely, I filtered 20 gallons of wine and lost 4-5 bottles, not good. I'm a home winemaker and this unit is suited more for someone at a winery who has the space, ability to make and clean up a mess, and cleaning facility. The written instructions are extremely poor, that's why I viewed the videos. The hoses include a plastic clip that the video shows how to install but doesn't show how to remove them for clean up. I broke one clip when removing it. The clean-up process needs to take place in a tub, I used my kitchen sink. Cleaning the front of the base plate filter is easy, there's no way to clean the back of the base plate. The unit needs to be completely disassembled to clean which means it needs to be completely assembled for another use, that's way more than what i was expecting. Overall, if I had a friend who had this unit and I was able to see it in action, I would not have purchased it.

This giant, cumbersome contraption was nothing but a nightmare. It leaks your product even though I followed suggestions from other owners. You lose a bunch of your product in the lines/filters. For light color meads, you cannot differentiate when the water stops and the mead starts so you risk water down your product or pouring it down the drain. This might work for large batches but for a home fermenter, this was a failure. I was able to return for a full refund thankfully.
