The first db reading was at 1 meter from the 3/4 hp pitbull. The second is the Zoeller 3/10 hp. We probably asked the wrong questions of the experienced ‘Wet Basement Solutions’ installer. Years ago there had been a catastrophic flood in the crawl space so it’s likely we told the guy to install their biggest. Unfortunately it was right under the master bedroom and the drain pipe was hard mounted to the floor joists with those white ‘J’ hooks. It was startlingly loud. We tried a few things over the years but it was ‘too damn loud’. After reading a suggestion from an experienced plumber that after 10 years it would be best to replace a sump pump for the security of knowing you had a reliable system in place. After reading the reviews We picked this. The replacement instructions were well written and I had no problems. The 1 1/2 inch pipe connection was for a male connector instead of the female connection on the Pitboss. I cut that end off and PVC glued the male adapter. I made up the difference (5”) with the “stand” kit a rubber 1 1/2 coupler below the existing quiet backflow valve , and adjusting the pipe support. I can hear the pump, but I have to listen for it, just a soft humm.
