I Love a Cop: What Police Families Need to Know

I received my first copy vandalized with the words ACAB written inside (Not author's fault) I messaged the author on FB and she redirected me to another place I could buy this book. I bought the book and found it really hard to follow. None of it felt like it was on a personal basis. I followed the author briefly on FB and was shocked to find that she appears to be against everything she writes about in this book. Not impressed. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

I read the original book years ago and ordered the newest edition to see what changed. I was very surprised to see how updated it is! The profession has changed a lot since the first publishing and the author is definitely still involved with agencies and individual officers. As the wife of a career law enforcement officer (38 years on the job), I am a big fan of this book. I would (and do) recommend it to any law enforcement officer, spouse and family.

Bought this book for advice and a better understanding of what my hubby goes through at work. It's very easy to read - I think I read the first 3 chapters in two days and you get practical tips and advice very quickly. The second half of the book deals with traumatic situations for your cop, which thankfully we haven't had too many of, so that part didn't apply to me really - maybe in the future it will. The resource section in the back is just a list of agencies or books and is pretty generic, which is to be expected. Overall I'm glad I bought it - just wish there were a few more chapters on marriage and communication.

Selected the buy new button, but when I opened the package the book was dirty, sticky and had something brown spilled along all the pages. I exchanged it and the second book had nothing wrong with it. I love what I’ve read so far. I can’t wait to finish reading it. Was only disappointed because the first book came dirty or else I would rate five star.

This book is so outstanding that I recommend it to every cop I work with. The focus on the family in this revised addition is spot on. Law enforcement is a closed culture and not everyone is invited in. Dr. Kirschman is always on the invite list. She knows her subject inside and out. This is one of the top books in the law enforcement world. Every Police Department in the country sports this on their book shelve. If you get the chance to see her speak, grab the opportunity.She tell's it like it is. Thank you Dr. Kirschman for your life long commitment to our men and women in Blue.

Anyone who “loves a cop” should read this. It gives you valuable knowledge and tells you what to be aware of and kind of look out for. I’m glad I waited for the new edition to come out before purchasing as it address the new challenges LEOs face in today’s ever changing world.

This is an easy read, lots of helpful anecdotes that I think I will remember as time goes by. I think it gave me an overall better understanding about how different cops are, and how isolated, and why.

Whether you are in a dating relationship with or married to a LEO, you should read this book for insights on what they face and how they cope. The LEO life is incredibly hard and traumatic. Family members should read this as well.

My daughter is married to a police officer. She says it was the best gift she could have received at this time. I highly recommend this book, as I read it as well.
