Very stable
This ladder stand worked extremely well for skim coating and painting a 2 story wall going up to the second floor with 10 foot ceilings first and second floor. I used a Werner adjustable height ladder and had no problems at all. The stand felt very steady as I went up to the highest part of the wall.

Problem solved!
This adjustable stair equipment did the trick. We needed to change light bulbs in a fixture directly over our stairs that was about 20 feet high. We were able to do so with this "helper" and an extension ladder. A great solution to our problem. Glad we found this on Amazon. Thanks!!

Worked great on my stairs
I'm painting the inside of our home and it includes an area above the basement steps that's over 15 high. I was able to place this leveler on the steps and easily reach the ceiling with my extension ladder. Very stable. Every circumstance is different due to stair construction, space, etc. but this proved to be a great purchase for me.

Where was this when I painted my stairwell?
I love how sturdy and heavy duty this is. I also love how easily and compactly this disassembles to only 24"L X 3-1/8"H X 4-3/4"W. This is something you probably won't use everyday. But when you need it, you're probably taking risks without it. I just wish the Chinese would hire me to write their instructions because they're missing the mark: "Insert the round steel pin into the assembly holes of "firmware" 2 and component 3 and 'manage' the round steel pin with the chain and the hanging ring. Product assembly is complete." There are no pictures of this chain in the instructions. You get 2 chains, 4 (key)rings, 2 cotter pins, and 2 round steel fixing pins. No instructions for how this goes together and you should see the creative and useless ways they are illustrated in their product pictures. I have included two of my own pics depicting how I believe they should go. One shows the fixing pins are attached to a ring, which is attached to the chain. The other end of the chain has another ring and a cotter pin which goes through the other side of the steel ring. The other pic has the chain, attached to the steel pin on both ends and wrapped around the ladder extender with the ring through one end and the cotter pin going through the other. And yes, I agree with another reviewer that the cotter pins were very tight. Anyway, this is a quality tool for people with stairs who may need to steady themselves on a ladder while painting or changing a lightbulb.

Heavy duty, but not meant for carpeted stairs
I ordered this because I'm still haunted by the risks I took to paint the stairwell in my last house. I was young and stupid; it's a miracle I didn't break something. Fast forward 15 years and it's time to paint the stairwell in my new digs. Safety first! I'll start off by saying this thing is heavy duty! When used on wood or other solid flooring, I would have no concerns over safety. Unfortunately, I have thick, carpeted stairs, and it just feels too unstable. Another reviewer mentioned the same thing - it's no fault of the product, it's just a matter of using it under the right circumstances. It would be great if there was an optional rubber foot or something to be able to use this on multiple surfaces. Overall, it's a solid product, as long as you know its limitations.

Used this to paint the high ceilings in my stairwell. Worked well.
This does the trick well. Sturdy enough where I didn't feel at risk anymore than I would be on a ladder on the flat ground.
