Hi quality cable which allows me to extend an swap USB-C cables connected to my monitor with ease.

This actually works, and works well
This is the only USB-C extension cable I've tried that actually works reliably and maintains a rock-steady connection (with power, 4k video and USB traffic going through) without freezing or cutting out intermittently. It looks and feels solid and very well built, although, I must admit, it’s a bit too stiff for my liking (perhaps a braided design would be more flexible). I wish there was a slightly longer variation. But all in all, this is an excellent extension cable.

Great quality doesnt feel flimsy. Managed to get 25gbps with them.

Active Cable extender
Amazing cable its (active) which boosts signal for those extended lengths you mite need to reach (4m) make sure you pair with a 3m Active Cable not a passive one.

Perfectly fine if you’re after a 50cm long uncertified pass-through cable, no major complaints
This ‘USB4/Thunderbolt’ compatible extension cable arrived in the standard Cable Matters branded grip-seal pouch, with some relevant printed documentation and the cable itself neatly coiled up and held with a couple of twist ties. As usual from this company they’ve made a good quality cable, it’s made from a believably thick and well insulated cable that gives credence to the claims of it being able to take 240W and 40Gbps transfers while still being fully reversible. You do have to pack a few extra conductors in there to satisfy all of that, and they’ve done it well here while still having a soft outer sheathing and very flexible friendly extension cable. Like the rest of the cable the connector and connector bodies are well made and have suitably stiff strain-relief built into them. They also have a compact shape that makes the male end a non-issue for even the tightest ports. Annoyingly there isn’t any identifying markings about the speed or wattage rating or any spec of the product on the cable ends, so once this goes into a box or bin of similar looking cables the chances are good that you won’t remember which one happens to be the USB4 40Gbps extension. I’ve got into the habit of labelling or otherwise marking unmarked cables with a drop of coloured paint or nail varnish, but that really shouldn’t be necessary and USB-IF has dedicated USB4 logos for a reason. I suspect the real reason they haven’t got the USB4 or Thunderbolt logo on this is because it’s a dumb pass-through extension cable and therefore wouldn’t technically pass certification as it doesn’t have an e-maker chip or any other of the active circuits required. To their credit they haven’t actually claimed that the extension is USB-IF certified, just that it’s compatible with cables that are certified. It doesn’t really bother me but even a simple 240W and 40Gbps marking on the connector body would’ve been appreciated, it didn’t need to be the USB4 & Thunderbolt markings or nothing. I’ve had no issues with PD3.2 charging through this and there hasn’t been any noticeable impact on any transfer speeds to and from a Thunderbolt drive and other devices, so it does do what it says on the tin for both data and power. Which makes a lot of sense if this doesn’t have any active electronics inside it, it’s just passing everything on and the transfer and wattage is going to be strictly limited by the devices, cables and power sources attached to it. Overall I've got no major complaints about how the cable works, if you’re looking for a 50cm long pass-through for practically any device this will work just fine.

Cable matters rocks!
It's an extension, what more else could you want! Just make sure that, if you're purchasing this for an eGPU enclosure, to ensure that you're aware that this cable isn't active, hence why its 20 Gbps only.

Good quality
Its a solid extention. Im using it to extend a VGA adaptor from my laptop stand. The only downside being its very thick and hard to bend in comparison to a normal cable. I havent tested the data rate on it yet but works fine for connecting a screen .

Pretty good quality and does the job. Unsure if it's due to the cable or the nature of USB-C, but you can't seem to daisy chain them. Other than that, I recommend this if you need a quick extension on an already existing cable.

It is working as expected. I connect usb c hub to it. Only issue is manufacturing year was 2014.

If you’re looking to extend the reach of a USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 device without sacrificing performance, the Cable Matters 40Gbps USB4 Extension Cable is an excellent option to consider. Its robust build, short length, and compliance with high-end specs make it a reliable choice for demanding setups—whether you’re connecting 8K displays, external SSDs, or high-powered docking stations. Key Features 40Gbps USB4 / Thunderbolt 4 Speed Officially rated for up to 40Gbps data throughput, meaning you can transfer large files quickly and maintain the full speed of external SSDs or other high-bandwidth peripherals. Backward compatible with Thunderbolt 3, USB-C 3.x, and USB 2.0 devices, so it works well even with older gear. High-Resolution Video Support Supports 8K@60Hz or 4K@240Hz, making it a solid pick for cutting-edge displays or high refresh rate monitors. Ideal for content creators, gamers, or professionals needing top-tier resolution and fluid motion. Compact 1.6-Foot Length Short, tidy extension for tight spaces or cable management. Minimizes potential signal degradation that can occur with longer cables, helping ensure maximum performance. Perfect for bridging a small gap between a desktop port and a device without excessive cable clutter. Durable Construction Cable Matters has a solid reputation for producing sturdy cables, and this one is no exception. Reinforced connectors and a thick cable jacket provide extra protection against daily wear and tear. Performance & Reliability Stable Connection: During testing with a Thunderbolt 4 dock and an 8K monitor, the extended cable maintained consistent data rates and video signals. There was no flickering, stuttering, or unexpected disconnects. Broad Device Compatibility: Plugging in various devices—like external SSDs, VR headsets, and high-powered docking stations—worked smoothly. In each case, the cable extension retained full functionality and speed. Minimal Latency: Even with resource-intensive tasks (like video editing off an external SSD), latency stayed effectively negligible. Users who rely on real-time data (such as audio engineers or gamers) shouldn’t notice any performance hit. Use Cases High-Resolution Monitors: If you need a little extra reach between your PC/Mac and an 8K or 4K display—especially with high refresh rates—this extension cable maintains the full bandwidth for crisp visuals. External SSD Enclosures: For large data transfers or on-the-go editing, the extension ensures you’re not losing speed if the built-in cable is too short to reach your workstation comfortably. Thunderbolt/USB4 Docking Stations: Extend that short built-in cable on your dock without hindering its full range of ports and performance. VR/AR Headsets: Keeping your VR headset cord at an optimal length is much easier with a short extension that can handle high data rates. Pros & Cons Pros Full 40Gbps Speed – Zero noticeable drop in performance for data-heavy tasks. 8K@60Hz or 4K@240Hz Support – Great for ultra-high-definition setups. Robust Build Quality – Reinforced connectors and thick cable jacket for longevity. Short, Manageable Length – Ideal for close-range devices or tight desk spaces. Cons Limited Length – At only 1.6ft (about half a meter), it’s specifically designed as a short extension; if you need more reach, you’ll need a different solution or multiple cables. Premium Price – USB4/Thunderbolt 4 cables can be pricier due to stringent certification and higher specs, which might be overkill if you only need basic USB-C speeds. Final Thoughts For anyone needing to extend a USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 connection without losing any of the top-tier features—like 40Gbps transfers, 8K video output, or robust power delivery—the Cable Matters 40Gbps USB4 Extension Cable (1.6ft) is a compelling choice. It’s well-made, reliable, and ensures your high-end devices and peripherals operate at full speed. If you have a tight setup where every inch matters and want to maintain maximum performance, this short extension cable is highly recommended.

Cable works with Nintendo Switch 2 dock. See photo reflection on Swich 2. No overheating issues with the Switch 2 so far. Brought cable as kids were quite harsh docking and undocking. You will need to push down the usb c shield inside the dock to expose the male part of the usb c connection. Then while holding down the shield line up the female end of the usb c cable and push it on. After this connect the usb c male connection into the Switch 2. Definitely recommend this, buy it!
