An Incredible Account of Healing !!
My first impression of this book was unfavorable, as I was surprised the author's introduction was dated 1944, when I was expecting a book published in 2005 to be ' modern'. The book is about the accomplishments of a healer who worked between 1918 and 1944 . I quickly found this book to be one of the most extraordinary accounts of healing I have ever read. Most of the book is comprised of case histories of extremely sick people that healed themselves with the guidance of John W. Armstrong. People found there way to Armstrong after being abandoned by their doctors and other healers and told to go home to die, or they refused the conventional surgeries for fear of death. People recovered from gangrene, tuberculosis, kidney failure, kidney stones, breast cancer, pancreatitis, leukemia, burns, malaria ( of 40 cases treated, 40 went in to complete remission ) and many other diseases and injuries that had advanced to life threatening status. Non life threatening conditions are address, including treatment of the common cold, gum disease, and skin disorders.Part of the book is devoted to how he came to heal himself, and the rational for his therapy.Armstrong's method of self healing involved removal of all medicines and fasting for five to up to forty five days. The patients drank water and most of their own urine. Urine was also used to massage into peoples skin. It turns out urine is sterile solution of minerals, vitamins, hormones , living cells, etc., that can have profound healing qualities when used externally and or internally. I wonder if the medical use of urine was somehow a selective advantage that got us naked apes to where we are today !Armstrong's book is a good starting point to explore Urine Therapy, and should give people the faith to try it. Why not give your body 30 days to heal itself before you endanger it with toxic mainstream therapy such as breast cancer treatment ? If you can't afford designer mouth wash, try using your own urine, just don't tell anyone !!November 2013. I have had experience using my own urine as a topical wound dressing, both with infected and non infected wounds. I soak a clean bit of old towel in my fresh urine, place it on the wound, cover with plastic from a zip lock bag and secure with an ace bandage. I change the dressing twice a day. It seems to be quite helpful and I have had no problems with the USR ( urine soaked rag ) sticking to the wound. An uninfected abrasion on my knee about the size of a silver dollar was healed in 15 days. I am a 62 year old diabetic with ok circulation in my legs.October 2014. Badly wounded the tip of my index finger this July. Cut was about an inch long and very deep. It bled now and then for over a week. I would wrap the wound in a cut off finger from a cotton glove, soak it in fresh urine and then over it up with a finger from a latex glove. It healed without the use of antibiotics. It healed without scaring which is one the claims ( now personally verified ) from Armstrong's book. Increases the credibility IMO.

An interesting treatise on urine therapy
The first I ever heard of this came about when Gandhi endorsed the practice for wellness in either a book or movie (I forget which) some years ago. It startled me somewhat at the time. However, I've since seen the practice recommended in movies made in the Far East, in books about English sailors who traveled the world, and in accounts of people who survived disasters of various kinds and drank their own urine in the absence of potable water until rescue. The book is quite interesting and even persuasive, but the language is dated. Some of the illnesses do not readily correspond to modern terms. While I was grateful to read the book, it left me wishing for a more modern treatment of the therapy with some scientific studies to support it.While I recommend reading this book, I also recommend Martha M. Christy's "Your Own Perfect Medicine," and "Urine Therapy" by Flora Peschek- Bohmer and Gisela Schreiber. While there is some overlap in the two latter books, there is also much that isn't contained in both. The Christy book also has a number of recent studies done by reputable clinics and doctors in the US and Europe. I expect to see more good studies about it in the future.I have celiac disease and many allergies, and I have been diagnosed with SLE and suffered nerve pain, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases. For these I have taken quite a few prescribed and OTC medications and supplements, desensitization injections, and even used HEPA filters on my windows coupled with showers (and washing hair) and rinsing my clothes after coming indoors during pollen season; I have avoided the typical foods that are listed as "oral allergies" through the tree, grass, and weed pollen seasons. After having tried all this, I decided it would be worthwhile to give urine therapy a try.To my great surprise, it has worked better than anything else. Incidentally, I understand you can have desensitization injections made from your urine. I went about it the simple way, though, and just chilled the urine quickly in the freezer and then refrigerated it to drink daily. It tastes best when you've eaten a vegetarian diet. The more animal protein you eat, the more bitter the urine begins to taste. Sardines don't seem to make much difference, and a serving of poultry or egg doesn't seem to hurt, either; but a large serving of beef or pork starts to give it quite a bitter flavor. A large amount of cheese doesn't seem to work well, either, although a small amount doesn't seem to cause a problem. The flavor is something like chicken broth, and so it doesn't mix well with fruit juices. Urine doesn't have a great smell, although it doesn't stink until it ages long enough to begin to develop ammonia. If you are going to drink it, you should use it fresh daily and keep it refrigerated. (A quick chill in the freezer is a good idea) Use a clean catch from the first morning voiding. With the sleep hormones still active in your system, that catch also provides some calming effect for your day.All of my autoimmune diseases have gone into remission since I began the therapy. I lost my thyroid production decades ago, and I have not been able to go off my supplemental thyroid hormone; however, that's the only prescribed medication I have to use daily. I have had to use a steroid inhaler for a couple of days after accidentally consuming MSG, which can be quite bad for people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease. That's only a brief usage, though, to help calm the unruly autoimmune response.Check with your doctor or a naturopath before using urine therapy if you take prescribed drugs to get an idea if there is any danger of overdose, since urine therapy has a "recycling aspect" to it. If you take street drugs, I would not advise using urine therapy. Your urine will change throughout a 24-hour period depending upon what you inhale and consume, and it doesn't adjust to protect you against anything until after you have been exposed. Therefore, you may need therapy from a later voiding after exposure to certain pollens if the day began clear (after a rain, for example) and later turned quite warm and sunny so that the pollen count became quite elevated; or after eating a meal containing an oral allergy component. You probably won't be able to consume all fruits and vegetables listed on your oral allergy chart, but chances are good you will be able to use some of them. Most foods on the oral allergy lists can be eaten outside their pollen seasons when you have become desensitized, but I wouldn't encourage you to attempt one that puts you in danger of anaphylactic shock. The urine therapy also works well against bacterial and viral infections. I have had good luck against stomach "bugs" and influenza since I began using it. Incidentally, it also works well as a nasal douche and an eyewash when you have those irritations going on; if you want to dilute it, use distilled water. It is said to work well for cancer and many other ailments of both the inner body and the outer skin. I use it topically as an antiseptic for broken skin injuries. My plants seem to thrive with it, although I dilute it with a bit of water if it seems too salty. I often add a tablespoon of good white wine to my therapeutic drink just for the sake of fragrance -- that would be a tablespoon to about a half cup, to give an idea of proportion. It isn't enough to affect one's sobriety, but just a bit to add fragrance. If you are sensitive to sulfites, be cautious, though. A little squeeze of lemon or lime can be nice, as well.I understand the struggle with cultural revulsion, having undergone it, myself. I urge you to see Martha Christy's book, which shows "numerous elements of nutritional value in urine, along with hormones, steroids, and other critical elements that relate and control key processes of the body." It is sterile as it leaves the body. The therapy is well worth investigation in my opinion. My understanding is that the therapy works similarly to a homeopathic remedy. The kidney separates this liquid from the blood; it is diagnostic of bodily health, which is why physicians have it analyzed periodically. What seems to be indicated, though, is that it is not only diagnostic, but also prescriptive to a significant degree. My own experience would seem to confirm this.
