An affordable option
It is what you pay for. It is a cheap, toughened, sturdy camera for your trips. The quality of the pictures is ok, seen better tho. It a small and light camera. I love it very much.

Pentax WG-1000
The following review is solely my opinion: I bought 2 of these Pentax WG-1000 compact cameras, one is a gift and the other will be kept as a spare, or use with different options chosen eg landscapes / portraits. They have useful accessories including a lanyard, and a carabiner with material strap for attaching the WG-1000 eg to a rucksack or similar. There is also a cover to add additional protection against possible scratches etc to the camera body. In the menu are plenty of options from auto to manual and lots of settings for scenes. The setup guide is sufficient to teach users to load a battery and SD card, and a diagram showing titles of the different buttons etc. The guide mentions an in-depth manual to be downloaded. This review is only my opinion and I have yet to see how its new owner enjoys it.

Extremely disappointing and badly designed
Purchased this camera in February 2025 for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday to Bhutan. On unboxing I immediately noticed that no full case is provided and that the lens has no cover but thought that this would not be an issue. It turned out to be very much an issue.Initial tests of the camera were positive: photographs were clear and detailed. The camera has 18 "scene modes" and while I used landscape almost exclusively I also tried portrait, panorama and night landscape (which I could not get to take a decent photograph of a distant floodlit building at night). The early photographs were OK but no better than my Samsung A14 phone. After about a week I noticed scratching on the lens which could only have come from taking the camera out of a zipped coat pocket. Subsequent photographs are hazy and worthless to me.The instruction manual, which you have to download, make no mention of any coating but another user seems to think that there is a UV coating on the lens surface. But the lack of a lens cover is, in my view, a fatal design flaw on a camera which is branded "Adventure Proof". Currently waiting for a response to my repair enquiry but I cannot recommend this camera at all.

Reliable and Rugged Camera
I’ve used this camera on several outdoor trips, and it’s been fantastic. It’s waterproof up to 15 meters, so I’ve taken it snorkeling and in the rain with no issues. The image quality is clear, even in high sensitivity settings, and the various modes like Underwater and Scene mode have been really useful. It’s tough, too—shockproof and dustproof, so I don’t have to worry about damage. Plus, the included strap makes it easy to carry around. Great camera for outdoor and underwater photography!

Great performance in rugged conditions
This waterproof camera has been a reliable companion for my underwater photography adventures. Its rugged build handles depths up to 15 meters without any issues. The image quality is impressive, capturing sharp and vibrant photos even in challenging conditions. I appreciate the variety of shooting modes, which offer flexibility depending on the environment. The compact design makes it easy to carry during hikes and dives. It's a solid choice for anyone looking to explore outdoor and underwater photography.

Nice, easy to use camera with good underwater capability. Manual control limited. Pricey
This review is for "PENTAX WG-1000 waterproof digital compact camera, designed for casual outdoor and underwater photography, waterproof to a depth of 15 meters, for up to one hour of continuous operation."I liked this camera, but it does have limitations. It is made by Ricoh, and sold using the Pentax brand that is usually reserved for its SLR cameras. After years of using phone cameras for convenience it was nice to get my hands on a real camera again. It has a decent size, bright screen on the back, and a good optical zoom range of 4x. When playing back photos on the screen, I found I could zoom those up to 7x further and still see a reasonably sharp clear image on the screen, so the captured picture quality is good. The camera can run directly from USB power, useful if you are mounting on a tripod for a long time - the battery itself is removable if you want to have several to switch over (although only one battery is supplied), and charges whilst in the phone when USB-C power is supplied. In auto mode the camera guesses what the subject is and applies settings accordingly - I found some pictures I wanted to take in darker areas were interpreted as night short with a long exposure, when I really just wanted flash - luckily there is a program mode that allows some features such as flash to be fixed. There is also a manual mode but I could find no combination of buttons that allows the aperture and shutter speed to be controlled manually - something I would expect for a manual mode to be useful.Videoing is possible at a 1080/30 resolution/speed. Not great by modern standards, especially if you want to make use of the underwater capability for capturing videos of reef fish etc. I hoped for 4K to be available. When videoing the microphone is very small, and there is no facility to connect to an external microphone. This means I cannot use this for capturing videos to use on my video-sharing social media channels, for example, as the mic quality is not good enough and cannot be upgraded. After a while of use, the buttons become quite intuitive, making it quick to use. It is also almost instantly available to capture pictures/video on start-up, unlike my phone which takes a while to get the camera ready. This means a much better chance of catching an opportunistic shot. When connecting to my laptop (W10) via USB, it both charged the camera's battery and allowed import of files. This showed the .jpg photos to be 16 megapixels in size, whilst the .mov videos were 1080p with a data rate of 15MbpsThere is a silicone protective case included in the package, if you expect a bit of rough and tumble, but unfortunately nothing to protect the front of the lens - I think this is an oversight as once the front lens glass gets scratched I think the camera would become useless, and a repair would be uneconomic. This doesnt really fit with the "adventure proof" branding on the back of the camera.I rate the camera four stars overall, dropping one star for the lack of lens protection, manual control, and lack of microphone connectivity. The price at the time of review was around £250 which is not cheap, and it seems there is a high price for the Pentax brand name.
