Even as Disney has revelled in the success of its high-end animated features, it occasionally sneaks a lesser effort into cinemas, based on one of the many TV shows with which it dominates daytime TV. This one is based on perennial Disney favourite Goofy's adventures in domesticated bliss. Goofy is now a single dad; when son Max gets blamed for a prank gone wrong at school, Goofy blames himself and decides that, for his vacation, he's going to get away with Max alone. Of course, this is no treat for Max, who has just met the girl of his dreams and harbours no wish to spend the summer touring America with his square dad. The vacation is one disaster after another, though they aren't particularly funny disasters; the culmination involves Goofy's efforts to get Max backstage at a big rock concert. --Marshall Fine Goofy decides to take his son, Max, on a fishing trip, in an attempt to bond with him. Max therefore has to break his first date with Roxanne, a schoolmate he has a crush on. Instead of telling her the truth, he lies and pretends that he and his dad are going to perform with the rock star Powerline in Los Angeles. On the trip, Goofy and Max have various misadventures, which include having to hide in their car when Goofy accidentally annoys Bigfoot. When Goofy offers Max the role of navigator as a consolation, Max surreptitiously changes their route... to Los Angeles. Review: A good Disney film - If you love a Disney film then you will enjoy this Review: Adventurous father and son story - This was a flash from the past from my childhood years, so couldn't resist when I found it on DVD. This is a funny story about Max and Goofy's relationship as Max tries to become a confident teenager. There are many silly moments that had me laughing out loud, but also many touching moments, which makes this a great movie for all the family. It's a shame it's so little known as this has to be one of my personal favourite Disney movies.

A Goofy Movie +
An ideal film for kids featuring Disney's favourite character, one of the extras is an episode of Walt Disney Presents, just what I bought it for.

I can't believe this movie is 20 years old!
This was one of my favourite cartoon movies growing up. The songs are really catchy (I still sing On The Open Road to myself when I'm going on a long car journey!), although the 'Powerline' tunes are now a little on the dated side - the style is placed FIRMLY in the 90s. The story is a lovely one - a family aesop about a father struggling to accept his little boy is becoming a teenager, a grown up who will no longer need or want to spend time with his dad; and a son who wants to impress a girl, but struggles with the guilt of disappointing his parent; and you know what - seeing it written down it looks a lot more deep and heavy going than it really is, because, let's face it, it's Goofy! Having said that, it does have a true emotional undercurrent - the 'Hi Dad' soup scene always gets to me. I love Bill Farmer voicing Goofy - his emotional vocal range is incredible. And Jason Marsdon brings a believable Max - without sounding too much like a whiny teenager! The supporting cast of characters (including Jim Cummings as Pete and Rob Paulsen as PJ) are an essential part of rounding out the rest of the story. It's definitely worth watching with the younger children in the family - especially before they reach the awkward teenage phase - show it often enough so the message goes in subliminally!! ;-) and, although there is mild peril, there is nothing in there that should scare them. And parents can enjoy the jokes that go sailing over the heads of the kids! A true family movie.

Not a masterpiece but that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy :)
It’s not a Disney masterpiece but as a film I’ve watched as a kid I love it, nostalgia and great soundtrack is right up there.

Childhood
Ah sweet sweet childhood! I loved this movie as a kid and I love it even more now. It's great how when you watch a cartoon as a kid, you don't understand the jokes and puns in them, but when you're older you fully understand! :L The good old Disney is the best!

Still One of Disney's Best
Wonderful film from the 90s. A great movie for both kids and adults that continues to have just enough heart and soul in a way many animated flicks these days never quite reach. Watched this countless times on VHS as a kid and this Disney Exclusive Blu-Ray release has it looking better than ever. Well worth the purchase.
