Too bad -- works, but not really
This is an update to my previous review which I leave in place, below. This item does work. It now triggers Alexa routines that make a verbal announcement at all three of our Alexa gadgets and sends a message notification. In addition, both Smart Life and IFTTT send notifications. So the objective of having an un-missable alert when the gate of interest opens has been met.However. Only 4 stars until someone can restore the 4+ hours of futzing it took to get to this point. That included a half-hour-plus phone conversation with a very helpful and monumentally patient Amazon-Alexa tech support person, with whom I completed the additional steps of deleting and re-installing Alexa on my iPhone and other steps of eliminated and re-imposing the device and its settings.Any of this could have been made much easier and less time-consuming had the device maker included clear and complete instructions. And in a format and font that humans can actually read (see below). This feels more than a bit pyrric. I was quite ready at a certain point, AFTER having attached the device with screws, thereby marking and scratching it, to have returned it -- in a paper sack as a basket case -- for a refund. No way to run a railroad, folks. But it now -- at least for now -- does do what it says here it should do, and what I expected when I ordered it. Let this be praise -- faint but definite enough -- and cautionary tale. The manufacturer really, really, REALLY can and should do much better._____________________Original review:It was easy enough to get this thing connected to the wifi network and for Smart Life and Amazon to recognize it, and to report 'door open' and 'door closed'. And 'tampered'.It was much harder, but I did succeed, in getting a notification for door open to appear on the lock screen. That involved, after much frustration, installing IFTTT. From the info here before purchase, it was not at all clear that should be necessary. From there, one one (1) occasion the device successfully triggered not only the lock screen message from IFTTT, but also, from Alexa, a verbal announcement on one Alexa, a verbal notification to all three Alexa devices in the house, and turned on a light. An hour later none of that works and two hours later still there is no sign at all of how to get things where the pitch for this gadget promised it would be easy to reliably get.The documentation sucks. The printed page included presents 20 pages of instructions -- in 2 point type. With difficulty online I was able to determine that a PDF of half these instructions, dealing with getting the device on the network, was available. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. Nichevo, as far as any instructions to go beyond that and get the thing to perform 'as advertised'. Anyone who knows how to do that, and can instruct, clearly, how, will be welcome to offer such counsel.Don't really know what to day, in sum. Would be nice to take advantage of what this claims it can do. As is it does present a notification. But not consistently, reliably, or usefully.I will be happy to send it back, in a sack, with the destroyed box and stuffing as a protest. At this point quadruple my money back would not begin to compense the aggravation and frustration in a broken promise this thing now represents.

The product functions actually, precisely as it is designed to.
I am very please with that the product does what it was created to do, in it's entirety.I use this product on the front door to the building of which I reside. I have a second floor apartment and other tenants kept leaving the door open, usually, accidentally, not completely closing the door after entering or exiting the building. Although I also have security cameras, it is rather uncomfortable, especially having my 3 young children living with me, knowing that the front door to the building may not be fully closed, which means that the door, therefore, would not be locked. So, I purchased this product to always know the status of the front door to our building. I use this product in conjunction with an LED light strip via the product's app and also use in conjunction with Amazon "Alexa Echo Input", located in my back room, which functions as our multi-purpose/entertainment room. The LED light strip is located in the front room, my bed room, under my Ikea desk which I use as an entertainment center for my Sharp 55" Android Smart TV.The LED light strips in the front room is set to activate scene 2 of the light strip product, which is a blinking red mode. I set the blink speed to be not so slow of a blink and fast enough of a blink to command attention. In the rear room, actually, the kitchen, which is connected to and before the rear room -I have the door sensor have the Amazon "Echo Input" say: "The front door is open", when the front door is opened and, "The front door, is now closed", when the front door is closed. It only takes about 1 second for the door sensor to trigger the LED light strip and Amazon "Echo Input".All products named in this review are Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa enabled and as such, allows me to check the state of the front door through Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa by using the same command question: "Is the front door open?" or, "Is the front door closed?" Asking, "What is the stated of the front door, has not been understood by either Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.I can make the command question via my android TVs remote, or through my smart phone and if course through the Amazon "Echo Input". I do not yet have a Google smart speaker but plans to purchase the BlackWeb Google Assistant enabled sound bar as an alternative to a Google smart speaker. I have purchased the Amazon "Echo Input" as an alternative to an Amazon smart speaker because the "Echo Input's" ability to connect to an external audio system via audio cable or bluetooth.I am well pleased and plan to order 6 more door sensors, 4 more Amazon "Echo Inputs" and possibly 1 more LED light strip.

Works quite well for reporting whether my garage door has opened or closed (but needs good Wifi)
The product would get a 5 star if the installation instructions were not only incorrect, but less confusing. It was not clear that from the moment the batteries are put in, whether it's in AP mode or in EZmode (non-AP). I can not tell you that it is almost impossible to add this device in EZmode (non-AP) to the Smartlife app. The AP mode will time out as well, and even taking out the batteries and putting back in will not set AP mode. You have to hold the tiny switch in the battery compartment down for at least 8-10 seconds, and still may not go into AP mode. After a number of attempts, I finally got it to connect. The AP mode blinks the red light about once every 1-2 seconds, whereas the EZmode (non-AP) will blink about 3 timer Per second. I found it rather easy to connect to Alexa, and by adding a "Routine" in Alexa for this device, I can have her say "Garage door has opened" or "Garage Door is Closed". That was important, because just hearing a notification does not tell me who or what is sending it. I chose to mount the sensor as shown in my photo, because it would not work along the side rail and could be knocked off if I put it on the top edge of the door (1st try). The adhesive will eventually cause the switch part to fall with a little heat, so I also put some white electrical tape around it to hold it. I put additional 3M double stick pads on the magnet part and it is going no where. The other thing, is if your Wi-Fi is not at least -50 dbm or stronger it will not stay connected. I put an extender in my garage and now it has a very strong signal and works everytime.
