Best Kipling for kids!
Rikki Tikki Tavi is the story of a young lone warrior facing two experienced, ruthless killers in urban and subterranean combat. He and his adversaries wage an asymmetric campaign against each other, where our hero has to weigh the tactical necessities, ethics, gaining the support of the civilian population, and ensuring the safety of civilians as he engages a threat that would kill innocents to control key terrain. This isn't Mogadishu or Mumbai, this is a mongoose who is the guest of a human family protecting his humans from a pair of cobras. In the drains, bathrooms, and garden of humans who rescued him when he was a half-drowned kit, Rikki stalks and is stalked by Nag and Nagina as they prepare for their clutch of eggs to hatch. With the help a pair of tailor birds and a cowardly muskrat, Rikki defeats the cobras and protects his family.A heroic and inspiring tale suitable for every child, even if the parents are too effete to cope with a to-the-death fight against an enemy that threatens everything Rikki loves.Yes, I enjoyed it immensely, if that was not obvious.E. A breath of childhood!
I first encountered this story as a child, as an animated film on television. It became my favorite story, with the cadence of the narration and the wonderful animation bringing the story to life. I used to watch it every year, just like the Christmas specials and The Wizard of Oz. I've even seen it a few times as an adult, each time reliving a little piece of my childhood. When I saw this book recently, on a list of free books, I grabbed it up so I could carry this little piece around with me all the time. I was kind of afraid to actually read the story, because so often these days books and their movies don't have much in common. However, this is word for word the animated story I have enjoyed so many times; or should I say the animated film is just like the book. The language is lyrical, and there is a rhythm to the story that reinforces this quality. If I had a child, since they don't show the film any more, this would be a regular on the bedtime story list, and not just for the language. The themes of making the best of what happens to you in life, and of protecting your family, are woven throughout this story, as well as using common sense when planning anything you have to do. I'm going to grab The Jungle Book next!

RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE
This is a story taken from The Jungle Book with which many adults are familiar. It involves a young boy named Teddy and his family who rescue a mongoose named Riki Tiki-Tavi. This poor creature has nearly drowned near their bungalow in Segowlee. The mongoose is an animal known for its tenacity, and Riki will prove his worth to the family who has adopted him.The reader first learns of Riki’s rescue and the reluctance of Teddy’s mother to keep him. Riki proves a friend to the Tailorbird named Darzee who screams that the cobra snake Nag has stolen an egg from their nest. The snake’s wife Nagaina tries to ambush Riki and nearly kills him. More danger befalls him as a smaller snake named Karait attacks him. The family is impressed with Riki’s bravery. The young boy named Teddy brings Riki everywhere. At night Riki goes exploring and Chuchundra, the muskrat, tells Riki that the snakes plan to kill the humans so that they will have the garden to themselves again. It will be up to the fearless mongoose to protect the family and marshal all the animals of the garden together to defeat these nefarious snakes. Will Riki be successful in rallying this disparate group to protect the family and their habitat? The digital edition was produced by Gere Donovan Press in 2012. It is also available in hardcover and print, which I would recommend to the fact that it includes the award winning illustrations of Pinkney. The Jungle Book is now in the public domain. In this edition the original language has been simplified, and I believe that children aged eight and up will not find it too difficult. Of course this does mean that some of the beauty of the Kipling’s writing is sacrificed. The lessons of fearlessness, loyalty and devotion to family as well as the local culture that the story imparts remain treasures to be shared by future generations. Adults should note that Kipling does display some violence in his descriptions.

I loved this book as a child
My grandma used to read this book to me when I was a child and it was one of our favorites. I was so excited to find this here. I purchased it to give to my all nieces and nephews for Christmas. I hope they love it as much as we did.

Disappointed at the editing
Jerry Pinkney's illustrations are absolutely beautiful. If you want to buy a book solely for the pictures, this is the book for you. However, if words also matter, the text in this book is a sad, watered down imposter of Rudyard Kipling's robust, captivating storytelling. What a disservice to an otherwise beautifully illustrated book! Why, editors, why? Was it political correctness? Was it space? An aversion to the original Victorian sounding language? Kids are way smarter than people give them credit for. My 6- and 8-year-old daughters have memorized much of the original text and had no problem with the language and the poetry, so this was a severe let down. We sent the book back.

A charming adventure story of a mongoose that children will like
Rikki-Tikki-Tavi by Rudyard Kipling is a 34-page short story about a young mongoose which is found in the 1894 anthology called The Jungle Book, but is now found in Kindle for free. Children will love this charming story. Mongooses are known for killing snakes, including cobras and eating them. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is the war cry of the young mongoose as he fights snakes. In this tale, the mongoose is saved by a white English family of a father, mother, and young boy. The story is about how he saves the family on a couple of occasions from snakes and how he battles three snakes, including a husband and wife cobra and their 25 eggs that are about to hatch.

Hilarious
Amazingly written this story as a part of the Epic and classic novel 'The Jungle Book', is too much enjoying and full of fun. Rikki-tikki is developed as a very funny character.Though this is all seems to me inspired from the Mother of all the stories' collection, "PANCHTANTRA" by 'Pt. Vishnu Sharma'; in which he with very versatility cast the moral and funny stories based on animals as central characters.Still, Rudyard Kipling had developed a very fine sense of storytelling and 'The Jungle Book' is undeniably a worldwide fame work of his.I really enjoyed it and for me it deserves even better than 💯.5.0/5.0

A Review by A Seven Year Old
In Rikki-Tikki-Tavi you can imagine all the details of the story for yourself. Everyone can see the story in the house they think fits best. The garden is perfect for each reader and the characters are exactly as they should be. I imagined the boy's bed as a bunk bed for instance. The plot is everything and the background is whatever suits each reader. The story is so exciting that I always wanted to know what happened next and I could see the action clearly because the description is so perfect.I loved this book, it was written more than 100 years before I was born and I was right there with Rikki-Tikki-Tavi killing the snake.Daddy read this to me and I insisted on dictating a review.
