Love Splat Midnight colors
I love this stuff! I've heard/read complaints from people I know & online so I'll say I was skeptical but it worked well on my hair & I continue to use it...in case you don't want to read the whole review. For the record I have long wavy dirty blond/red hair & I'd say it's "medium" on the darkness scale. I tried putting some in my kid's hair, both have dark brown hair & it didn't really come through. On my hair however, which now has streaks of silver in it as the red fades (commonly happens to redheads early, I'm not even 40), it shows up really well. I've used the midnight jade, midnight amethyst, midnight indigo & midnight tanzinite.1. The colors show up vibrant & they last forever...if you were hoping for something that would wash out you'll want to look elsewhere. I last added 3 colors to my hair in December 2022. It's now March 2023 & it's faded a bit but still surprisingly vibrant. I'll redo it again soon but mostly just because of so much crown growth, not because the colors have faded.2. I've used other hair colors since I was a teenager & found Splat to be about as messy as any of them. Some people really go on about how messy it is but with a few precautions you won't even be able to tell. For starters, wear a t-shirt, something that covers your torso & maybe even long sleeves if you have long hair. I that when putting streaks of color in, it's easy to get a little color on your arms/shoulders. Then, I use a little petroleum jelly on my hair line so I don't stain the skin on my face. Also gloves...the ones that come with the kit are cheap and lame, I buy medical grade ones to use. I also like to use scrap fabric/paper towels to lay around the sink because I hate cleaning up more than I have to. Once I'm done with my hair the sink/tub will be stained...it's hair dye, it stains...not better or worse than other colors I've tried & no matter how much of a mess I've made, it's always come off the sink/tub with a little bleach spray and a scrub daddy or one of those arm in hammer scrub pads.Pros:1. Relatively cheap compared to other products/going to a salon2. Long lasting color with relatively little fade/good color payoff (this could be a con but this is what I wanted)3. Color does stain skin BUT comes off easily with a body scrub/exfoliation4. Color/product cleans off of tile/tub/sink easily with bleach spray, hot water & a scrub pad5. You can use one bottle for a long time. I've had a green that I've been using since 2021 & I still have enough for one more application left & it's fine. I just keep it in the box in a cool dry place without natural light & have had no issues with consistency/efficacy of the product.6. Gentle-other box dyes have caused burning on my sensitive scalp but I've never had that issue with this product.7. Flexible-leave it on for an hour, or leave it on for 6 hours because you accidentally fell asleep with plastic wrap on your head...your hair will still be beautiful & healthy (assuming it was already somewhat healthy)8. No bleach in product or needed (I hate bleaching my hair so I appreciate this)Cons:1. It's hair color, it's gonna be somewhat messy & you have to clean it up/take steps to protect body/skin/area or it will stain2. The gloves that come in the box are really flimsy & have broken/leaked every time I've used them (they are single use gloves but you get 1 pair with each box of dye)3. I've seen first hand where hair didn't take color at all, but similar hair a shade or 2 lighter DID take the color so it's a little fiddly...it works GREAT on my hair (which is medium light if anything) but I know & have tried it on other people who I didn't think had particularly *dark* hair & it didn't show up at all.4. It's been difficult for me to find these colors in stores/I've had to order them online. This is a con for me because I prefer to shop in person but it might be a pro for you!

I love this stuff
Be warned, a lot of people discourage the use of splat because they say it's practically fabric dye and terrible for your hair, that it will never come out.... but I don't care, I want my hair purple 24/7 so I use only splat because that's exactly how it works! I've had it last for over six months before. For some reason this box only took well to my roots and the rest of my hair faded a lot quicker so I'm bummed that I have to do it again so soon.I do not use this on my kids hair though, only mine that should be purple 24/7 >.<

Seriously?
Ordered this over a week ago. Got a message that it would be later than it said when I checked out. And then when it arrives it is an open bottle with the inside of the box and the bottle covered in the dye. It is too late for me to find another of the same color and I have an event in a few days that I wanted this done for.

Vibrant, long lasting color
Just received my box of Splat in the color of Midnight Amethyst, I can't wait to use it. Although I haven't applied this kit to my hair, I already know how fantastic it works on my grey hair that it covers my coarse grey hair like no other product.i haven't been able to find my color at the local store for about a year (? popular) idk but I'm glad that I finally thought of asking Amazon. Amazon Rocks while Splat rolls = Me as a Shining Star. Win Win! I think it works best with shorter hair but age has no place in the matter of Midnight Amethyst

The first time it stayed in
This second bottle washed out for the most part and actually bled when I was walking and sweating. The quality is inconsistent. Back in the 80s the bright colors I used didn’t do this

Works Well!
I have used almost every brand of hair dye out their and splat has several thing about it that I like.-It doesn't use peroxide so it is much better for your hair than a box dye.-The colors they have are very vibrant and pretty on bleached hair (what's more important than the color being pretty?)-It last longer than most hair dyes that don't contain peroxide (although I have used products that last a little longer, but not in orange)-You can mix some of it in your shampoo and it will stay much longer and keep vibrant (I use about half shampoo/half dye and I don't have to wear gloves when I put it on as long as I wash my hands in the shower right after I put the shampoo on)-You can also mix it in a clear hair glaze. This works really well and can bring it back to vibrant even after it has faded. What I don't like about it:-It stains everything! You can't get it anywhere on your scalp or skin or your counters. It is less of a problem with this orange color, but with the darker read and blue you really have to watch out. It takes me at least an hour longer to dye my hair using splat than with normal dyes because I'm really careful not to come out with a stained head (trust me it stands out if you part your hair and their is a big spot of dye there. So don't skip using the Vaseline around your hair line and neck and still be carefully even if you do. Also when you wash it out of your hair I would advise spraying a bleach cleaner all in your tub so the dye wont stick it to. It's not too hard to clean off the tub even if you don't spray first, but it's better to just have it not stick at all.-The bleach included is very poor. It does work, but seems to damage hair more than other bleach. Also when I used it (my hair is naturally a medium brown) it turned out very yellow and not the normal blonde color I was expecting. Unless if you leave it on for a very long time then it is lighter blonde but also your hair is more damaged, and the more damaged your hair is the less the dye will stick to your hair. I never use the bleach included, I either give it away or throw it out. I think you should pick what volume of peroxide is in your developer according to your natural hair color, so this peroxide in a box is not going to work well for everyone's hair. With those long complaints said I still love this product because the dye is more of a stain and last longer than most demi permanent dyes. Also I like that you can mix it in your shampoo to keep it looking bright. That doesn't work with all dyes (manic panic doesn't help at all in your shampoo) and doesn't ever work for dyes with peroxide in them. It will be a problem that it lasts long if you want to change your color to something that clashes it (you can put a red or pink on top of it, but not a green) but if you think you might not want it for very long then you should just try one of the splat boxes that washes out in a week.little tips:-If your hair is damaged too much from bleaching the dye will not stick right or it will turn out great only to wash out way too soon (I have been in both situations where it only dyed the area in my hair that was just bleached [my roots] and no where else and when it dyed it all but didn't last long)-Make sure your hair has the right ph balance (you can by ph balancing shampoo and conditioner if needed) and that you have a good amount of protein and moisturizer in your hair. I recommend leaving conditioner on your hair for 15 or 20 minutes after you bleach it, and if it is not your first time bleaching your hair then i would suggest either doing a moisturizing treatment or leaving the conditioner on your hair all night long. Just make sure that if you do a protein treatment you don't over do it to the point where your hair is hard and brittle (been there: only a moisturizing treatment can save you now)-if you are worried about how much the bleach will damage your hair you can add in a clarifying shampoo to tone it down a bit. If you have black hair this is not recommended because the bleach will not be strong enough to make your hair blonde, but for medium brown, red, or dark blonde hair this should still lift your hair just fine.-pouring a half distilled white vinegar/half water on your hair and leave it on for a minute after the wait time is up and before you wash out the dye can help the dye last longer (I mix a cup of each together in a measuring cup and just pour it in my hair while i'm bent over the tub, and put some on my gloved hands to make sure it got on the front of my hair also. They i kinda massage it in for just a minute then start the rinsing with luke warm water but ending with cold)-wash your hair separately from when you take a shower using cold water (unless if you don't mind taking a cold shower)-if you are trying to remove the dye mix a very small amount of bleach together (1/4 a teaspoon of bleach and peroxide) and mix it with a clarifying shampoo. Shampoo your hair like normal only leave in the shampoo for a couple of minutes before rinsing it out. This will take the dye right out from your hair! If it doesn't take it out as much as you need it to you can repeat the process. You can also add more of the bleach to your shampoo but if it is too strong it will actually bleach your hair again instead of just lifting some of the hair dye.

Cool color
Easy to use. It comes pre mixed and has lasted quite some time. I use to touch up my blue permanent color more often as it would turn like a seafoam green after a few months. This is still going strong and some strands are a bit more pink but still nice. I would say be VERY careful with respect to not getting the dye on countertops and clean of skin immediately because it will stain. I also rinsed off after use in the kitchen sink as I was concerned it would be hard to get off the white tub. Subsequently showering won’t stain the tub but just really ensure you protect the surfaces you are working near. A few drops got onto my white quartz countertop and I had to spray bleach and let it sit a few minutes to get the pink out. DO NOT use near marble counters because it will not come out.

Hair strand
My daughter had one hair strand to colour. Her hair had faded at the salon. The Splat looked great in her hair . She was very happy with the results.

Gorgeous deep colour!
I had some teal and purple in my hair before. Teal washed out, so I wanted to freshen up the look. It turned out great!

The Joker would be proud.
Everything is there to colour your hair. Bleach is easy to apply and then add some colour. Deep emerald in my case, just like the Joker. I'm very happy with the results.
