How good is this brand exactly? Does it cover succesfully gray hair and its long lasting? very hard now a days to find quality product.

Not good at all. I used it, and not even two weeks later all the color had washed out, and I'm not an excessive hair washer. Also, it's very drying.

My wife has been using 50. Is 51 lighter or darker?

51 is very slightly lighter and with a very pleasant touch of "unnoticeable" red. It is a personal choice, so she should try 51. I think she will like 51 if she likes a medium brown color.

What volume developer is used in the box?

Although it does not say, I am sure it is a 20 volume. I was a professional hairdresser for 25 years, so more than just a guess. I use only this on my hair. Have for years. The question shows blue black. I am a dark brown, but I'm sure that does not make any difference.

I usually go for med/ dark golden blonde.... is light auburn (53/5r) a whole jump in a bad direction? I'm in my 50s, and have in the past, done blonde/red kind of color....

I'm 60, and this color looks incredibly natural. I leave it on only 20 minutes, and it comes out beautifully. I get a lot of comments about how pretty the color is. This is especially important to me, as I see so many other older women going brassy red or Bozo red, and I cringe. This is the only color I can say is natural. It is a little darker red than golden blonde, but after a couple of washings, it looks more blonde than reddish. I've tried so many other brands, even the ones that cost three or four times as much as Colorsilk, and keep coming back to this one. If I could buy 100 of them, I would....
