Carroll Smith's Engineer in Your Pocket

Must-Have Reference for Alignment + Car Behavior!
This is a great reference! it is printed two-ways: one side of each spiral-bound card lists alignment options --> car behavior, the other side of each card shows symptoms --> potential alignment causes. it's a really nice comprehensive checklist to make sure you go through all possible options to correct oversteering, understeering, veering, bump-steer, roll. I especially like the Oversteering/Understeering section, which is nicely devided into subsections for that behavior in different parts of a turn; for example, understeering when starting to turn in, or understeering in the middle of the turn, or understeering when stepping back on the gas, etc. There were a lot of things in this book that I remember having read somewhere but simply forgot.

It's for your pocket, or your toolbox
Carroll Smith wrote a bunch of great books. This is a not a book. This is a spiral bound pocket reference with thick heavy shiny oil/gas/water/sweat resistant pages. It collects all of the excellent cause and effect tables from Tune To Win. "If your car twists under heavy braking then you have excessive toe out or brake bias or whatever".There are 16 pages in the Problem->Cause direction and 16 pages in the Cause->Problem direction. Both directions are presented. You switch directions by turning the book around and looking at the back of the pages. There isn't any new information here. The information that is here is limited to the key summary information from Tune To Win. Just what you need to know at the track. The format is track appropriate. If you want a quick problem->solution reference at the track, this is it. If you want a book with lots of new information, this is not it.I'm using this at the track. It's fantastic.

Easy and thoughtful. Most everything you need to know.
I was showed this book about 3 years ago. Why it took me so long to get it is beyond me. Great little investment for when you are racking your brain at the track trying to set up your car.

for anyone who does not know it all.
If you know it all and have a perfect memory you will not need this handy guide.Well worn copies are found in the pockets of successful racing engineers pockets.

Very nicely compiled
This will open much further thought as to how to setup a road race car. It sure appears I need to purchase other books from Carroll Smith.

Husband loved it
My husband wanted this and I bought it for him. He loves it. It is a sturdy, well-laminated book that he says he will use a lot.

Great Book
This is a really good book.It provides great insight and the whole 'cause and effect' / 'effect and cause' format is well considered. The book does not go into vehicle architecture influences. In this respect the book is more of a development tool, rather than a design guide.

a must have for circuit racing
A fantastic little book with great layout - either look up the problem and it will tell you the cause and remedy, or look up setting and it tells reaction.

Amazing reference
Quick guide to resolve setup issues that is small enough that you can carry at the track. Does not address issues specific to McPherson struts but will cover everything else.
