UNMASKED

You need this book if you have any questions about Autism or ADHD
This book was gifted to me after my recent diagnosis. It breaks things down into bite sized chapters with clear highlighted important information. It covered so many areas without being too medical terminology deep (just the right amount) it also covered areas that I would not have thought about as they are not always covered/fully explained during the diagnosis process but they were really validating and made sense. It also helped my husband understand me better and explained it in relatable terms, so great read for everyone that wants to understand neurodivergence more.

Important and compassionate
This book made such a difference in my life. Written with so much information and so much care for the reader. I feel it really hit on each point and prepared your mind for understanding a diagnosis with grace and sensitivity. Obviously with all this info, bug feelings come up and this book just feels like a friend supporting you through it.

Useful book on neurodiversity, lacks depth in science, needs more diverse stories.
As an autistic person with a lot of personal experience, I'm always on the lookout for books that not only provide information but also empower. Ellie Middleton's UNMASKED looked promising, so I was excited to start reading it. After reading it, I would give it 3.5 out of 5.The book is divided into three clear sections: an introduction to neurodiversity, personal stories from people with neurodivergence, and strategies for managing daily life. What I really appreciated was the focus on self-acceptance. Middleton talks directly to the reader, encouraging us to embrace our unique differences. This part of the book is very empowering and offers tools that helped me in self-reflection and building self-esteem.However, despite the accessible writing style, I found the book lacked depth in some of the scientific explanations. For someone who wants to delve deep, the book can feel a bit shallow at times. More detailed analysis of neurological studies would make this book stronger. Also, I would have liked to see more diverse perspectives in the personal stories. Neurodivergence doesn’t recognize boundaries of race or class, and although Middleton includes a variety of stories, it lacked tales from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.Another critique is the presentation of the material. For me, as someone who learns visually, diagrams or infographics would greatly enhance understanding and accessibility. This would not only make the book more appealing but also more effective in conveying complex information.Despite these points of critique, UNMASKED is a valuable book for anyone looking to broaden their understanding of neurodiversity. It provides practical tips that can really help in managing the daily challenges of being neurodivergent. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for practical support and personal empowerment within the neurodiverse community.

A must-read
An excellent book about autism and ADHD. Super inclusive as the book is clearly designed for people in these minorities, not just by how it is written but in a design-sense as well.
