Q: Are they good for door hinges

No. Door hinge screws should have threads all the way up to the head. They should be shorter as they will only screw into the casing. (molding). I would recommend flat headed Philips head screws that are about an inch long. The reason most people prefer Philips is that if anyone ever wants to take the hinge off, such as to replace the door, then they will likely have a Philips tip (for their screwgun) in their tool box. They probably wouldn't have the torx or square head tip in their tool box, so they would have to make a special trip to the store to buy one just because they want to take off the hinge. There are very few cases where someone would want slotted, flat head brass screws for hinges. Those usually are for architectural reasons, such as custom $4,000 wood door with gold plated hinges. For your average door, I would just buy the 1" long, Philips flat head screws of the appropriate head diameter. If you are unfamiliar with hinges and don't know the appropriate head diameter, then you can take one of your hinges off the door and take it to Home Depot. Compare it to other hinges. Find another set of hinges that are the same size, or at least have the same sized holes. Then see what type of screws are provided by the manufacturer, and buy those same style and size of screws. Sometimes you have colored options to match your hinge. Long screws are not required for hinges as security on doors, because you have so many screws that secure that side of the door. Long screws are only needed for security on doors for the deadbolt. In short: These Simpson screws are the best of the best for certain applications, but they are not the proper screws for hinges on doors. I hope this helps.
