How do these compare to Smith and Wessons?

There are several differences. The Vipertek are thinner. The key to Smith and Wesson won't always fit but a vipertek key will fit most all brands including smith. The smallest wrist the vipertek will fit is substantially smaller than smith. They won't go quite as large as smith's but pretty close. The overall quality is similar. I would rate the vipertek the exact quality as Galls brand. When I worked for a small sheriff's department, we used Galls brand. I can't recall any breaking. When I worked for the Memphis Police Department, I actually had a guy snap a pair of smiths but he was huge. I'm in fugitive recovery now and these vipertek seem to be decent. I have 4 pair with no failures thus far.

Keys gone. i used them on a friend to show them. he is now locked to his car... he can't stay locked to his car until the new cuffs come in how do i open them?

This is old so I can't help you specifically, but if you're locked into your cuffs, go on a magicians website and look for the quickest way to pick them

Paper clip can be used to pry the locking paul open. Not hard at all. Dont worry if you lose the key. Its easy.
