WiiM Pro Plus Music Streamer for Stereo Systems, Modernize Your Hi-Fi

Wow! What a streamer. I upgraded from an old Apple AirPort Express and later an Apple TV to the WiiM Pro Plus, and the improvement in sound quality is incredible. Connected to my Bang & Olufsen hi-fi system, the music is noticeably clearer, with better separation, more detail and an impressively quiet background. I mainly listen to classical music, opera and film scores, and it genuinely felt like I was rediscovering my music collection. Even older recordings have taken on a new life. It’s worth every dollar—and then some. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be “wow.” Setup was quick and easy, and the app has been reliable and intuitive. Highly recommended.

I was looking for a Network streamer and did a bit of research on the internet and Youtube. After comparing the risk reward of each streamer, I finally bought one Wiim Pro Plus streamer. The initial sound from the Wiim Pro Plus connected to my Muzishare X7 integrated amp via a pair of Van Den Hul (The First) interconnect played through a pair of 92db Focal JMLab speakers was definitely better sounding than streaming via a Bluetooth receiver. Initially, even while I was streaming hi-res audio via Tidal, it sounded slightly flat and the sound stage felt a little compressed at the start. However, after watching a YouTube video on Best EQ settings by the cheapaudioman, I punch in the same setting he suggested and make some minor tweaks, and immediately the sound stage opened up, and the bass felt fuller. Now, I'm truly enjoying music that is streaming through the Wiim Pro Plus, playing Tidal via the Wiim home app. Be sure to fit this streamer with the best quality audio you can find, and it will definitely shine, it will not disappoint you. This is a highly recommended streamer at this price point for sure.

This multistreamer was a perfect choice. After a while I found out sone very nice details that made the use much easier. Like the autodetect of the optical signdl from my TV and the trigger output so that my amplifier turns on automatically. The D/A has been tested to be of high quality. I agree.

Produit acheté avec pour triple objectifs: - une meilleure intégration de services musicaux - une simplification de mon installation - un gain qualitatif sur le numérique Les trois objectifs sont atteints, et il y a de surcroît des avantages inattendus. J'y reviendrai. 1. je streame depuis Qobuz, Spotify, Deezer, youtube music, Amazon music et mon NAS via DLNA - FKAC et DSD Hi-Res - plus Tune-in radio ou services BBC. L'intégration de Spotify connect est excellente. Deezer et Qobuz fonctionnent de façon impeccable. Celle de Tune-in radio plante - authentification refusée car le navigateur n'est pas sécurisé ? Tenté sur tel Android, tablette Android, et iPad. Cette fonction est topissime: l'émetteur BT. Écoute d'un vinyle ou autre en BT donc soit au casque, soit sur un ampli BT dans une autre pièce! Seul problème: la portée est faible... 2) remplace un dispositif de réception BT avec conversion en analogique RCA pour entrer sur mon ampli, cette fonction est intégrée nativement, mais passe ici par l'excellent DAC interne (utile pour les amis qui passent sans qu'ils aient à se connecter au wifi familial pour balancer un son...); remplace aussi mon ancien DAC externe qui comptait trois entrées numériques (USB, S/PDIF, coaxial). Ici une seule entrée, mais une des trois s'occupait de recevoir la sortie numérique de mon streamer, désormais remplacé : le Logitech squeezebox duet, dépassé aujourd'hui et pas au niveau de mon installation. Ici une seule entrée, le lien numérique usb vers l'ancien dac entre désormais sur l'entrée numérique native de mon ampli intégré, or le DAC interne est aussi bon que mon ancien DAC externe (Schiit Modi 3), à savoir correct sans plus, c'est-à-dire insuffisant ici pour de la musique mais largement suffisant pour mon Chromecast Xiaomi Mibox S. Le DAC du WiiM est bien meilleur et c'est audible! Le tout est commandé avec l'application excepté l'USB Chromecast, tout entre sur l'appli qui même endroit et se pilote depuis l'app - qui est bien faite, et jolie de surcroît. 3) gain qualitatif sur la chaîne numérique: la platine MD de salon (lien en S/SDIF) profite, à l'instar de mes sources dématérialisées: celles du streaming déjà mentionnées, et de surcroît, réception BT, airplay 2, Chromecast..., de la conversion de qualité qu'offre le DAC AKM4493S pour un son qui a vraiment gagné en qualité sur la chaîne numérique: micro détails, tessiture des aigus, basses maîtrisées et tendues, musicales, medium toujours soyeux à souhait, micro-dynamique, sens du rythme (envie retrouvée de taper du pied, avec de la musique issue de la chaîne numérique, que seul l'analogique me donnait auparavant). En plus de tout cela, on peut commander le tout via Google assistant ('hey Google'), via Alexa ou via Siri. Les résultats de recherche regroupent par service musical intégré ces derniers, pour une navigabilité intuitive et ergonomique. Ajoutons que l'écosystème gère le multi-pièces si vous achetez d'autres produits WiiM comme le mini ou le WiiM pro tout court (sans le 'plus', qui revoit à la hausse le DAC). Fonction d'export (émetteur) de BT (prend une source analogique, le numérise à la volée et l'envoie en BT), + mise en pause via télécommande ou app; permet d'entendre les performances d'une chaîne vinyle sans les pbs d'acoustique de pièce, ou les limitations d'un ampli casque filaire d'intégré audiophile. Et de diffuser sans fil toute source, numérique ou analogique, chez soi! Killer feature! End point squeezebox: un client squeezebox (terme technique qui dit qu'il y a un programme informatique capable de recevoir le flux depuis un serveur/streamer Logitech squeezebox) est intégré. J'ai donc mis mon squeezebox duet avec l'ancien DAC, sur l'installation de la chambre, et je peux envoyer la même musique, synchronisée, dans 4 pièces différentes à la fois! Sur le squeezebox duet de ma chambre, sur la télécommande du squeezebox duet car il y a une sortie jack et une capacité lecteur /client squeezebox sur la télécommande même qui devient alors source numérique/streamer, sur ma squeezebox boom dans la cuisine, et enfin sur le WiiM vers qui je peux aussi streamer du squeeze lite ! Génialissime! Avec une qualité sur le WiiM bien meilleure que sur la squeezebox d'origine. Le meilleur achat depuis des années!

Using the WiiM Pro Plus as a primary sound source in an office environment. I'm using the WiiM Home App or alternatively the Tidal Connect link using Tidal's app. The WiiM unfolds MQA on Tidal for a perceptibly clearer and more dynamic sound. The WiiM Pro Plus sits on a shelf above my dedicated headphone amplifier -- a Schist Ragnarok -- and plays music through a set of Audeze LCD-2 headphones that I've had for years. I'm using my iPad as a control device (either the WiiM Home app or Tidal app) while I do actual work on my iMac. I've only had this for a couple of days, so I don't have anything to say about reliabiiity or long-term listening fatigue. I CAN say that I'm finding the sound quality much better than I feared. My primary listening system uses very high-quality audiophile gear that I've painstakingly acquired to achieve great sound. The DAC alone is more than 10 times more expensive than the WiiM, and my electrostatic speakers are over $10,000 these days. So I'm used to good sound. That said, the WiiM Pro Plus is a simply OUTSTANDING deal. I'm not doing any critical listening, but I'm quite happy with my new office music partner. Setup was trivial, although the instructions were either too simple or too complex. The only quick-setup guide was for the hand-held remote, and that's sending me to a device menu buried in the user interface. The full 40-page manual can be downloaded, and poking around will reveal the performance, hook-up, and features that are quite impressive (10-band equalizer, for instance, or the ability to sync multiple units together for whole-house sound, as examples). For my super-simple office application it was major overkill. I use Roon at home, and Tidal. The WiiM Home App works mostly intuitively, although there are a lot of features and capabilities that might be important to those who like to play with their food rather than just eat it. There are a lot of ways to use this streamer, including as a simple streamer into a DAC of your choice if you don't like the built-in upgraded AKC DAC that is the "Plus" part of the WiiM Pro Plus package. At the moment this is not "Roon-Ready" but the previous experience with the WiiM Pro model suggests that it should become RAAT certified in a couple months or so. The WiiM shows up on my Roon app as a Squeezebox Lite unit, which is better-sounding than Chromecast or Airplay. I've tried mine with 3 different control maps: 1) the WiiM App, which you need to run at least occasionally to keep track of over-the-air updates (I've had 3 so far and I've had it less than a week). 2) Tidal Connect let's you cast your phone Tidal through the WiiM where it will connect to your account and run the highest bit-rate supported, depending on what your Tidal plan supports. I'm using the top plan and the high-res + MQA sound quality is best so far. 3) You can run it as a Roon end point player, although not yet certified. When it does get certified, that is likely to be the best-sounding option, giving you the most control of your music. The WiiM app purportedly lets you play your own music if you have it online in your network someplace. I tried linking one of my music folders and it kinda worked, but got very draggy and slow. It's like teaching a dog to dance... it's amazing it can do that, much less do it well. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase, the great development team behind it and the terrific value it represents in terms of sound quality and capabilities at this price point. Highly recommended.
