So, I bought this small amount and some very small pipettes to measure the Iodophor and I am confident the result will be an improvement in efficacy at my water dispenser. If the water dispenser is used a lot and therefore the water doesn't just "sit" in it, you probably wouldn't need to do this. But in my place, the 5 gallon jug may sit in place for a couple months and I notice a slimy feel on the neck of the old bottle when I remove it to change bottles. That can't be good, so I'm going to try this remedy inspired by my beer brewing friends.
