Excelant paste, had CPU overheating problems old paste had gone hard and was not transferring heat from CPU to cooler efficiently. I removed and cleaned of old paste then I replaced the AMD FX-9590 CPU after applying ARCTIC mx-4 thermal paste "Walla" no more overheating issues CPU runs all 8 cores at 5ghz 100% load and stays stable. Back to your question. Yes, if you're removing cleaning then replacing the CPU or fitting another one, you only need to use a pea size amount of Paste in the centre of the CPU, when you clamp on your cooler it will spread the paste out it's self.
