Brilliant Introduction to the Language
This is the fourth language course of this series I have purchased and I must say that I am most pleased. The general layout is very similar to other courses of this series and is certainly just as enjoyable and helpful. Accompanied by two CDs, this step by step course offers you the best opportunity to start learning a beautiful language that will open doors into the friendly cultures and societies of Portugal and Brasil. Containing 10 lessons altogether, each lesson consists of key phrases and exercises, covering a certain topic (e.g. in a bar, asking for directions etc.) Each lesson is followed by a general revision exercise and a quiz. There are also three Checkpoints in which all of the past lessons are revised. Useful information about the country itself and its people is given throughout the topics. The course is designed extremely well. The language itself is in my opinion divine and sadly highly underestimated. Although it is similar to Spanish and various other Latin languages, it has its own bases and origins. Portuguese is truly a wonderful language to have. If you are interested in learning Portuguese, then this is surely the course to start off with.

easy and fun
I like it because it moves along quickly but you can go back and repeat. The music between the sections is a little annoying a bit like ads on the tv.. but its useful basic vocab. and it helps having Portuguese speakers from different areas saying the phrases. I will stick at it.

Brilliant way to learn a language.
This is a brilliant way of learning a language. Easy steps. Unfortunately I wanted to be able to listen to this on my phone but don’t know how to download the cd. Any suggestions?

Short and sweet
I bought this for a holiday, because I like to know a bit of the language before going. This book is perfect for that purpose. It is a pretty thin book and I was almost a bit disappointed when I opened it and saw how small it is, but it has two hours of audio and is just the right amount when you've booked a holiday in a couple of months' and don't have a lot of spare time. Almost 100% of the material is stuff you would actually use as a tourist, which is often not the case with teach-yourself language books. I found the audio very useful, not too fast, but not artificially slow either. So, everything it does include is useful. What is missing, in my view, is an introduction to some of the tenses other than the present. You're likely to need to use the past and future tense a little, and it only has a couple of sentences in the future and none in the past as far as I can remember, so if you want to make a bit more progress, you'll need to supplement the book with internet material or an intermediate course.

A book & 2 CDs For £5
Box of book and two cds. Cd is clear with male and female british natives with authentic and clear brazillian portuguese accents. It moves quite fast so it is suggested to read through the excercise in workbook first and then fill in the blanks while listening to the cd after.

Quick and effective
Nicely done, short but compact, and covers the essentials for a short trip. The CDs are essential and can be listened to on their own, which is a bonus. It is apparently aimed squarely at a teen-to-twenty audience, which may mean they know their market, but it works for older newbies, too - though we may be less inclined to venture into 'familiar' terms.

Is there a download veraion available instead of CD?
The CDs are a bit obsolete. A download would be more helpful?

Good basic introduction for your holiday
These BBC 'Talk' books/CDs are very basic (10 short lesson) and really only suited to learn a few phrases for your holiday, but for this they do a very good job, especially if in addition you view the related BBC 'Talk' videos online.

Just what I needed
We are planning a trip to Portugal in the Fall and I wanted to be able to be fluent in at least a few travel phrases before we go. I didn't expect a full range of Portuguese, but these lessons will go a long way when we are out and about and need directions, want to ask simple questions, and want to interact when we are not with the tour group. I was also happy to find them because most of the Portuguese learning tools are for Brazilian Portuguese, and these are for European Portuguese. Happy with the price, too!
